Kelly - I love these "near the house" videos. It reminds me of being a kid wandering the neighborhood and fishing and trapping in the local ponds and creeks. I know its nice to get out and travel to some different places but these local videos hold a special charm of their own. Looking forward to the bass fishing at "Cement creek". Oh yeah I grew up in Louisiana and its been a while since I've heard " River Chicken". we would call coots Pouldeau which is french for "water hen "(almost the same when translated literally.)

@@PhilipFear I'm also a duck hunter except on the east coast and here our bag limit is 15 day. I never shoot them for the reason you mentioned. The old timers here called them "gizzard ducks" because they have an extremely large gizzard. They would shoot them, cut the gizzard out and ice it down, then throw the carcass out for the turtles and gators.

Off shore fishing is awesome. They have plenty of charters. Fishing is pretty good up here. As a young girl I used to fish off the rocks in Montauk with my dad. One of the best experiences catching stripers off the beach.

Good stuff, Kelly! Those traps are ok unless there are turtles present. I've been trapping crawfish in creeks here in SC using wire double funnel minnow traps for 30 years. I simply use wire cutters and make the holes in the funnels a little larger. Bait them with a can of cat food (punch holes in the can) or bream heads (best). You can get the traps at most bait shops or Walmart (Gee brand). They are basically turtle proof. I also run turtle hooks and when I saw that soft shell my mouth watered. Like you said, the soft shell is the gold nugget for turtle people. Easy to clean and tasty! Keep doing what you are doing and I'll keep watching.

New house! Thats awsum news, congratulations! Good on you for being aware of how to set those crawdaddy traps AND cutting that little softy loose! Watch your fingers, they have a decent strike range. I find them down here at the Salton Sea occasionally while performing ESA surveys. If you want to catch crayfish, come down here, we need to get as many out as possible! Loved the video we need tutorials on catching bait. It's a usually the beginning of a successful fishing trip. I have used crawdads to catch redfish in St.marys Georgia. And you can repurpose the traps (repaired lol) for minnow traps. We catch bull head minnows in similar traps Major props and congratulations on your new home which will be an awesome adventure in It's own. We come down to Fort Pierce and Watson Island to go Off shore fishing. So be safe and we all enjoy tagging along with Kelly and the Finley adventures. 😎

You should try hamburger or beef liver in your crayfish traps. That's what we use on handlines here in Oregon to catch them. Just something to try if you can't find anything else.
