No need to grease the face of the seal - putting grease there attracts dirt. Grease only the seal inner lip portion where seal rides on flywheel.

What happens if I really don’t have any end play? Seems like the flywheel is tight to crack and no, zero, movement. Thanks
@VitosFix2 жыл бұрын
Please make sure you are checking the play with a dial indicator like the one below. If you are within specs (0.003 - 0.005 inch), then I would say you are good to go. Just make sure you are pulling the flywheel all the way back, reset the dial indicator, then push it all the way forward. More play than allowed will not end well. amzn.to/3yxqPmN

What heads did you opt for? Starting my engine for our Karmann Ghia shortly and having a hard time deciding.

1672d Panchito 044™ (40 x 35.5) 90.5/92 Bore (each) w/Dual Hi-Rev Spring Upgrade The link is on this video on the description. I’m not sure why, but I can’t find the ones on CB Performance that I bought. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3rZq3loetmje68 I guess it just depends on what you’re wanting to do. These heads are going to rock compared to the stock application, but may not be the best if you’re wanting to get the most miles out of a daily driver. The bigger intake/exhaust valves will boost the performance, along with the dual springs. Also depends on how much you want to spend. These were about $320 each. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I never had issues with leaking. Seal is seated and where it needed to be. Thanks for the input.

Aren't you supposed to set the end play before you install the pistons
@VitosFix3 жыл бұрын
I see no difference, this is something you could do on a engine that’s already been running and needs the end play fixed. I wouldn’t take the engine apart and pistons out just to fix the end play.

Too much torque -go with 240. Robert Bentley manuals are the best and have the original VW factory specs.
