I’m a long time guitar builder now building my first violin. It’s been such a more demanding but thoroughly enjoyable and challenging endeavour, and no 2 will be much better. Very grateful indeed for your concise description and guidance. Particularly the specifications. Much the same as setting a guitar neck but without the dovetail as well! I might set the neck with the back off but in the mold so I’m not working into the neck button - thank you anyway. Lovely.

This is the next step I have to take in my violin, and it's my first one, so I'm very nervous an intimidated about it. There are so many ways it can go wrong!

It's interesting to me why there are no guitars that use the system used by violins. The bridge with the strings bearing down on it and the sound post and bass bar. The trapeze tailpiece is the closest I've seen and it has no sound post or bass bar, to my knowledge. The violin is so incomprehensibly loud for its size, I would think that guitar builders would have caught onto the engineering before electrical amplification was started.

They aren't particularly loud when plucked, the volume probably has more to do with the bow constantly adding energy to the system.

@@DaisiesofHate Good point. I think you're right. A good thought. A mystery.
