Setting Up 3 Google Nest Thermostats In A Multi-Zone Home

Great video. I'm a new homeowner and just invested in a Google Learning Nest thermostat for the downstairs of my house without doing all the research on my heating setup. The house is set up for two zones (upstairs & downstairs) and with the upstairs being too hot I just shut down the heating zone. I will be purchasing another nest for the upstairs and following the steps in this video to get it straightened out. Thanks for sharing.

Quick question, I have a (Google Nest 3rd Gen BH1252 Learning Wi-Fi Programmable Thermostat in Stainless Steel with 2 Sensors) downstairs, do I have to purchase the same one for upstairs or can I purchase the cheaper version without the sensors?

BEWARE - This doesn't go nearly far enough. How to set multiple schedules on multiple thermostats. You might want the bedrooms operating at a seperate temperature than your main living area. Google Home let's you set up three thermostates but the nest App doesn't operate schedules for each zone with these instructions.

It's not made clear that if 3 zones are needed then are three Heat Links required? The Zone valves need to be operated somehow!

I like how precise you are on patching up the wall and installing it, I’m like that too.. good job! So in your system if you are running cool on one thermostat, and then you turn another one on and turn it to heat, what does your system do?

The biggest disadvantage is that it has to be wired even is connecting through WiFi

Nice video! Question, I just had dual zone installed off the same furnace and they gave me some basic thermostats and took my nest out. I am looking to buy another nest and get both running. My question is: Can nest pause one zone to run another on a different mode. What I mean is can I have the heat on in my colder basement running and have the AC paused upstairs until it's done heating the basement? Maybe having them both in auto or something. Have you by chance tried that? Right now the honeywell t-stats that they gave me can't do that and I have to switch one off to run the other. I also miss my nest. Thanks in advance!

The Nest also doesn't have that functionality. I feel like it could be done, but would require a great deal of time investment that probably won't happen any time soon.

Interesting. How each thermostat is capable to control the temperature in each zone? Are there any valves installed to stop the heating in different zones?

Yes. The home needs to be set up for zones.

Are all three of your thermostats connected to the same ac/furnace?
