I first saw a dried gouache palette when I discovered Sarah Van Dongen, and ever since I've thought about creating one for myself. So, I got myself a plastic Mijello palette with some birthday money, and here's the process of setting it up!
Hope you enjoy swatching out my gouache with me!

I have that same palette and my mission gold 26 set in it. It keeps the paints fairly soft, like I got it for Christmas and some are still moist, like gummy kind of way. I love it and love your energy on the video. Good luck with the book!

Oh, this is great to know! And thank you - I am as 'natural' on video as I am in real life! 🤪 And thank you - the book is waaaaaay more work than I anticipated, but the art gives me a break even just 10 minutes each day. 😘

Honey! Dilute a little bit of honey in warm water in a spray bottle and shake it up until it dissolves, then spray either the dry or wet gouache. I’ve found that it stops the gouache from crumbling up as it dries. I’ve re-activated dried gouache in a pan thats years old with this method. Also, some honeys work better than others, so switch brands if you don’t have much luck with one.

I just love 💕 you to pieces 😂. I can’t tell you how many videos I have watched about palettes to use for gouache. Granted your palette is kind of big but if it works then you’ll paint with them. My gouache is still in the tubes. I tried an “airtight “ palette and all of my gouache became very dry, crumbled and was all over the place. Whaaa 🤣. Maybe this palette will work 🎉

Ha h, thanks so much Diana! Always lovely to see your name pop up in the comments! 😍 A tip from a fellow commenter above suggests spraying with a little honey water, to help keep them soft. Which does make total sense, as the pans I have with honey (Roman Szmal watercolors) do have a stickiness to them... 👀 But, hopefully either way I'll be using this palette plenty. It is RIGHT NEXT TO my desk now, and far too tempting. 🤣

Sarah Burns suggest adding a little bit of blender medium into your quash when it’s wet and mix it up really well and this will help prevent cracking and keeping it a little bit more moist for re-use and re-wedding. I’ve personally tried this and it does a really great job. Also, if you do you want to try an airtight palette if you have any worries about mould add a little bit of an alcohol spray on top deluded not straight and that will fix the issue. You could also try adding some clothes oil and like you said some deluded honey into the mix and that will also help prevent cracking another tip from Lynn Lindsey, the frugal crafter is to press down on the grass as it starts to dry to take out as much air as possiblealso not to put too much squash out at one time

I think that in the airtight palettes the gouache dries more slowly. Maybe you should just lay the lid on top to keep out dust and not snap the locks to get it to dry faster. I use a smaller airtight palette, spritz water on top of each blob of gouache, and put it in the refrigerator and my gouache stays wet for at least two weeks and no mold. I’ve never left it longer than two weeks without using it so maybe it could stay wet even longer. So if you want yours to dry, I guess do the opposite of what I do lol.

Ha ha, great thinking Sandra! I'm still unsure whether I want them to dry out or stay wet at this point. Partly cos the palette is SO MUCH BIGGER than I thought it would be, so it really isn't one I would take out and about... so maybe wet is a good thing. Someone else mentioned honey water, I'm going to give that a go - and your fridge trick too! 😍

I love a day with an Evie Diva Doodles video. I relate to so much of what you say. I also do not need any more art supplies but guess what was on my doorstep this morning? But at least half of what I ordered is a gift for a friend😅

@@eviedivadoodles Last Friday I was all, thank god it’s oils. I have no interest in oils. But after my buying spree of 23, I still have some things I never used. They are organized but not opened. Like the gouache. I think I’ve finished my latest painting so perhaps today will be a sketchbook day with gouache.

Pretty palette! I have never used an airtight palette before and I mistakenly placed my student grade gouache in a tin palette and it turned out dry and cracking all over the place. 😅 Of course still useable but could be better 😂

Thanks for sharing. They do look beautiful! I have only the Winsor and Newton Designer Gouache. They smell very badly, but I thought that was because they are old...interesting that some of yours also smell.

Hi Sara - to be fair, the only W&N that really smelled is the titanium white. Really strong odor. I'm going to search for a different brand - I've heard good things about the Pebeo so may grab that at some point.

I had some watercolour pans getting mouldy, and some were too bad and had to throw them away. But it was in very specific conditions, like very hot very humid, stored away for long time, and with mould or spores already present in the place (room or whatever). It hadn't happen to me with actively used paints nor the ones I have in stay wet palettes or boxes.

Oh Eve, you are an utter tonic for me! See you Friday for that much awaited birthday art haul!! ❤️🖌️👩🏻‍🎨🎨❤️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️ How much coffee drunk since I awoke (with a stinking cold) 2hrs ago - mid morning!! My home is in chaos, all seating covered in stuff - all art related, along with the packaging I simply dropped on the floor. So to sum up, I have a horrid, red nose making cold, home in chaos, unshowered, watching KZbin, and I have two very official visitors coming in 1.5hrs. The main issue? Where do I seat them??? Sigh… you know what? I need another ☕️, then I promise I will be ready for the doorbell… maybe… perhaps… of course I will… I think! Thank you as always for videos that never fail to make me smile. ❤️❤️

Hi - I have cheap and good guache. That jelly guache is funny... messy but it dries and doesn't seem to mold and comes back to life with water... hard to mix thugh and ya know... for doodling. I'm a bit of a slob with art supplies (except the brushes) and they don't mold as I know. And these palettes... I seem to think it's a gimmick or else I would have it.

Hey Jackie! Funny you mention the jelly gouache- I have a container of Himi jelly gouache buried somewhere in a cabinet drawer. I should get it out and see how that is fairing! 😎 I'm quite excited by this big palette of gouache. If it stays nice and tacky (and mold free) then I'll be very happy. 😍

That’s so odd because I never consider mine as paintings and I always call them drawings no matter what I do. I don’t know why other than I don’t consider myself a painter. Maybe with us both coming through the fashion route. And we do illustrations which we consider drawings no matter what media we use. 🤔

I think you hit the nail on the head there Julianne! Even if I did an A2 fashion illustration with mixed media, it'd still be referred to as a 'drawing'! 🤣
