Tracy. Always nice to see your videos. I too am preparing for field day with endfeds and trees and tele poles. Learned some of that from you! Good content and very practical approach you have to this upcoming event. All the best, 73.

damn Tracy, that tent is like a nice room addition on the house! do you have AC in that thing?
@conradpelt88667 жыл бұрын
Hi Tracy, just another very interesting and useful video I'm happy to see!!! I'm looking for a suitable tent for similar actions and yours seems to be perfect for that purpose (not too big but also not too small, wide window, easy to mount in a small backyard, etc.). Can you share which tent you are using (make, name)?
@OutdoorsOnTheAir7 жыл бұрын
Hi Conrad! Thank you for watching. The tent is a Coleman Montana Big Sky 10 person tent. I purchased it more than 10 years ago, so I expect that model has been discontinued. Nonetheless, Coleman is still making large, similar tents for a reasonable price.Please be aware that if you will be facing bad weather, using it under an overhead tarp and pegging down all the guy points is highly recommended.

Ok Tracy, thanks a lot for your quick reply and for the useful information. I hope I will have the opportunity to meet you sometimes "on air" (I'm located in north Germany). If you could share when you intent to make contacts to Europe on HF, I would try to "catch you" on air :-)

I'd like to make a contact with you too! I don't get much chance to play radio, but you can look for me during October's CQ WW SSB Contest. I plan to operate portable and will make a video of my effort. 73 my friend!

I own a IC7200 and a AN/PRC-104 manpack. I use my IC7200 in the field often with a 35ah battery

I really enjoyed my 7200, but had to sell it to fund the purchase of an 817.

@@OutdoorsOnTheAir I understand it's a very heavy radio and the hobby can be expensive the FT817 is not cheap at all. I like that it has 2m, and 70cm all in one radio. I bought one of those uBitx kits yesterday Im in the process of designing a small manpack radio with it. Radio tuner, swr battery portable. Well we will see how that works out. I bought it to learn more about hf radio design also.

Hi Tracy liked the vid. Do you ground your end Feds at all? If so does this reduce noise? 73s
@OutdoorsOnTheAir7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, thank you! It's a good suggestion, but grounding the endfed antennas I use makes no difference at all, so I don't do it.

Hi! The ARRL Field Day rules provide the information needed to compile your exchange.

Tracy love the vids. What consideration is given to any system grounding when field day setups are used? Thx in advance.
@OutdoorsOnTheAir6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! While to some this will seem heretical, I do not use a system ground when deploying in the field.

Curious, what info do you collect in your excel spreadsheet? Does it capture time automatically, or do you have to type that in as well? Thanks for your videos!
@OutdoorsOnTheAir6 жыл бұрын
I've just recreated a log book page on the spreadsheet. I have to enter the time manually. One day I'll get into the 1990's and get a logging program :)

TRY antennas at different angles to the power lines youlllll figure it out
@OutdoorsOnTheAir7 жыл бұрын
I must admit I never considered that. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense, thank you for the tip.

Nothing in the rules says you have to live outside for field day. You can stay in your house and just run off battery power.
