Interesting and well explained video. The talk through regarding possible and actual problems was very useful.

I made a portable slim jim out of 300 ohm tv twin lead. I throw a line over a tree limb, and pull it up. Works good for what it is.

I've heard those work pretty good.

Hi, Just came across your video and I am thinking of building this antenna, did you tin the ends of the coax or leave them bare under hose clamps? atb from England

I don't recall what I did but tinning the leads is a good idea. My antenna is indoors so the weather won't bother it as much as an outdoor installation.

I am thinking about setting up an APRS gateway at my house. I did a listen only one with a scanner, audio cable, computer and software which was really easy but was told by KB9BVR that wasn't good for the APRS system (please excuse my ignorance) and two way gateways were better for the system. Did you ever setup this up? I was looking at getting a used public service radio but I see the Kenwood TM-281a is $120. A good deal for a 65w two meter radio. Thoughts?

I'm thinking of doing the same thing...busy with work right now though. Tm281 is a great radio - I use one in my car. Anyway, not sure what aprs looks like in your area but Michael may be right a receive only igate may not be needed but a fill in digi may be useful

@@SevenFortyOne Is there a guide on how to set one of these up? KB9VBR was planning a video on how this is done but he is a busy man like you are. I am a visual guy so seeing someone go through the effort of putting one up would be a great help. Looking for resources.

I don't know of any videos on this but there may be some out there. I'm not real familiar with it either so I'll have to figure it out before I do it myself
