IMHO the spg’s should be in the other HP port, running down the bottle. More streamlined and less entanglement hazard in any overhead environment.

For overhead environments that is certainly recommended. but for normal diving on a reef it is actually more comfortable and easier to access to have short SPGs pointing forward. Definitely as a photographer it is helpful not to have to flip the SPGs forward all the time. There is so much variation in sidemount theory, I think many approaches are fine.
