so glad you cleaned your palette--didn't you say residuals tend toward mud??!! prepares the mind better to start a new painting.

lol the little guy jumping is so cuuuuuuuuate! It's nice to hear you talk about what you use each color for. Not many videos do that. Carmine and Quin Rose are both cool red. I agree that you can let go of Carmine, especially since its lightfastness is not as high as all the others. I think Phthalo Blue would be a good mixer to have. I would have one half pan of Phthalo Blue, and one half pan of Neutral Tint since the latter is also high in tinting strength.

Thanks! Love the suggestions. Yes, I’m definitely losing Carmine. And I realized I needed to do a lot more work on my blues, so I’m colour charting those, as well as a couple I didn’t use, so I can visualize what I would be getting/losing by leaving them out. Im not sure why I didn’t do that ages ago. I’m not sure if I want to go to half pans. I think if I made room for Pthalo Blue or something, I would take out one of the others and stick to the full pans.

Hi everyone! You can easily clean your metal palettes using a stiff oil brush and olive oil soap. Even though the brush is stiff, it is not actually rough on the surface. It will, however, remove stuck paint easily.

Thanks! Great tip. I usually leave most of my palette so I have some easy greys with just being able to mix everything that’s there on the palette already. But more and more I clean off one area especially to make sure I get some nice vibrant colours right away for certain areas.

@@JoshWileyPaintings I never really understood that “palette grey” thing. I know that a lot of artists like to start with grey from whatever paint is on their mixing palette, but I like to stay with colour, usually a nice blue sky.

Great video, Josh! Kiitos, for sharing your thoughts. What app (Palette??) are you using to make your color charts, please. That's brilliant!

It’s actually just Google Drawings. I just got the colour swatches lists from Daniel Smith and cropped them down to just a single colour so I could arrange them and move them around.
