Terry, this is fantastic. I was taught how to use a different type of bench by my dad (who's German), so I am not used to seeing the different ways a bench like your's can be used. It is fantastic! I certainly did learn a lot. If I ever was in the situation where I was using a bench of your style, you've made me a heck of a lot more confident in knowing how to use it! Cheers from Melbourne

Great info here Terry .. What is your reasoning for using bamboo for your benchtop

If this is the first video you watch before deciding on a bench design, this video contains vital info, but make sure to watch ALL videos you can find, and cherry-pick your features. Watch Jay Bates video's on benches (soft vs hard wood, how many vises do you need). And definitely watch this video on viseless workholding: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6fLn2CGdst4jZY. My personal advise: make sure the front legs are flush with your table top and pick a one-jaw vise that allows you to secure big boards to the full front of your bench. Search for "sliding dead man". My "dead man" is not sliding. It's just a 3rd front leg in (about) the middle of my table. I have 6 dog holes in my table currently. 4 at the top (2 in front and 2 in middle of table) and 2 in the middle front leg (dead man). I add holes as I need them: not that often. The heavier the table and the wider the legs, the less wobble when planing. Frame the bottom of the legs, put a board on that, that serves as a shelf for heavy equipment. More mass.

Terry, You mentioned you workbench top is a bamboo laminate; where is Australia did you obtain the laminated pieces?

Hi Andrew, Dunstone Design furniture makers in Queanbeyan made the bench and I'm not sure where he gets the laminate but I believe it is readily available. You should be able to contact him through his website. Regards Terry
