Pro tip, if you wish to conserve wire, cut closer to the bend on the front and instead of cutting off the excess from the "lead gun" or "stinger", roll it back into the wire wheel. 👌

Thanks for a good basic tutorial on the start up of this unit, helps a beginner like myself👍👍👍

I really wish Lincoln would list the inches per minute on the wire feed, really helped me to dial stuff in when going off of processes I read or learned about. Knowing the IPM really helps. Checked my Linc Power MIG 180 Dual; #3 = 180 ipm, #4 = 225, 5 = 300, 6 = 350 and 7 = 390 ipm. I wrote it right on my machine. Should be the same for the 180C or 180HD. (Start a stopwatch and the gun, release the trigger at 6 sec., multiply length by 10)

Thanks for the video, very nice. I did panic a bit with the knife by the aluminum wire areas. I can see someone scratching them up.

If the cords come out of the cord for the power for the gun, CAN you fix this? Any answer would help a boat load...

DO YOU KNOW IF THIS 180 LINCOLN WELDER CAN BE CONVERTED TO 120 INSTEAD OF 220
@calvinhandley2373
@calvinhandley2373 6 жыл бұрын
mario rodriguez Yes the 180 Dual is a dual voltage machine that puts out 140 amps maximum on 110, or 180 amps on 220. You can find all the specs on Lincoln's website.

i have that welder. The polarity on my welder are opposite of what you say. The neg post is closet to the front of the welder on mine.

scott grafelman you probably have the big box store version, which looks identical (they're built on the same platform). It goes by different names depending on which big box store you buy it from. For example "Weldpak HD" from Home Depot, or "Pro Mig" from Lowe's.

The printed thickness control chart is horribly off. I’m melting 1/2” round instantly under the chart settings

Could you use the mig nozzle for flux core welding, does it matter? say if someone is used to a shielding gas mig then switches to flux core, just to keep the same look of the nozzle tip?

Yes, you could, but there would be no point because there is no gas flow with flux core. All you'd be doing is getting spatter on your MIG nozzle which you'll then have to clean off.

I watched this just to see the drive roller tension adjustment method. Reminds me of most of the car repair manuals you can buy, blah blah, simple stuff, blah blah, and then, sorry we don't know how to do what you want to know that either.

Using 110V or 220V does have a difference. Just like Calvin Handley said " you need to switch polarity from DC Electrode Negative to DC Electrode Positive when going from Flux Core to MIG". YOU NEED to read your manual and watch other videos and take some classes from professionals.

This entire process could have been shown in less than 5 min... but when at every turn, your making a big deal about everything and at 16:18 he's putting the cover screw on COUNTER CLOCKWISE, you see he's not prepared, let alone mechanical.

He had the negative and positive terminals wrong. The positive terminal is to the right. He kept calling it negative.

You're giving a setup tutorial, and you "don't know why" you need to switch polarity from DC Electrode Negative, to DC Electrode Positive when going from Flux Core to MIG?
@gerpsh

For those wondering, the reason you run DCEN on flux core is because it allows more of the voltage to run through the material instead of the wire. When you have a lot of power running through a flux core electrode it kind of explodes instead of laying nicely into a bead, so it tends to spatter and you won't get nice tight beads. If you're looking to learn about FCAW in general instead of this specific machine, the Weld.com guys have some good videos.

Exactly my thoughts... and at 16:18 he's clueless even how a screw works... he's trying to put the cover screw on COUNTER CLOCKWISE... then covers by saying "Let's see here" while covering up his hand.... This whole process could have been done in less than 5 min.
