Setting up my new Wandelen Appalachian II Tent is very different than setting up any other freestanding tent that I have set up in the past.

Hi Paul, thanks for the well presented and informative video, I’m on the verge of ordering one of these and am in the Uk where it rains every time anybody says ‘ tent’ watching you put the tent up in practice I can see no reason why it can’t be put up , ground sheet first then poles and then waterproof fly before crawling inside to attach the inner tent from there and staying dry in rainy conditions. Do you think that is an option? Thanks again Gerry

Thanks for the comment. I don't see why you can't set the tent up the way you suggest, I just wonder if it would be more work that it's worth.

This was really helpful as I’m planning on buying one for this summer’s camping, have you tried it out yet?

I have not. I hope to do a few, at least 2 overnighters this Summer, one in about a week and a half. I will do a review then. We have gotten a lot of rain the last several days and it's supposed to continue to rain for the next several so I should do a rain worthiness test soon. Do you have any other video ideas or hiking questions that would be goof for a video? Thanks for watching.

Three thoughts. First, wouldn’t it be just as easy to set the tent on the ground cloth then stake them together? Second, by doing that, then you only have to insert the tent poles once. Third, if you are not going to stake the tent, wouldn’t it be better to clip the fly to the ground cloth that is stacked down so everything doesn’t blow away in a good breeze? I seem to remember something about the highest wind speed ever observed in person on analog instruments being on a mountain top in NH’s Whites.

I set the tent up per the instructions. I was thinking the same thing about staking the tent and footprint together. As I don’t intend to camp where I would be exposed to high winds, I am not worried about that. Thank you for the feedback

Hi. Thanks for the review :) I'm considering this tent for a year backpacking in South America, where I'll be doing some multi-day hikes/treks in Patagonia and in the Andes. Do you think it would be up to the task? Also - I'm 6"2 tall - Do you think I'm too tall for this tent?

Great question. I haven't had a chance to take it out for a test run so I don't know how it would fair. When I unpacked it, I didn't think to look at the dimensions for tall people. I am 5'2", I don't know if a 6'2" person would fit. The concern that I would have, with a trip to Patagonia, is that it's mostly mesh, except for the rain fly so I don't know how warm it would keep you. I'd also be concerned about wind. As the tent is attached to the "exoskeleton" with clips. There might be a more in depth video exploring your questions. Thanks for watching.

Hey. I'm 6"2 tall - is this tent big enough for me to sleep without touching the walls? With a sleeping bag, mat etc. Thanks :)

I will check that out for you. Amazon and the company web site only give the dimensions of the tent when it’s packed up. It’s going to be a couple of days as I don’t have ready access to it.
