Oh, hi there! Yes, we’ve been here before, because I’m the person who compared The StoryGraph with Goodreads and taught you how to export your Goodreads books to The StoryGraph.
But, I’m also the person who hasn’t exactly kept up with both platforms, or made the switch completely. So, in today’s video, we’re going to fix that.

Yes, I did the switch a few years ago for the reading stats. I love it and wouldn't go back to goodread

Definitely worth looking more into the preferences survey. You can add a lot of tropes and themes that you like to read, and it will find those in your recommendations. If you just have “Greek mythology” that’s probably what it’s focusing on, but if you add a variety to that box, it will be able to recommend a wider scope of books 😊

I think you're absolutely right. I'm going to do some experimenting and see if I can come up with some really specific stuff.

Haha you finding the option to delete everything is gold :D Very good video! Just got into using story graph last year and loving it so far. I started my free trail month today and will probably buy the pro version after to support the app ^^ Through this video I discovered the roadmap feature which is very cool!

Hahaha I was so annoyed with myself but so glad I bothered looking. Can you imagine having to manually delete all those books?! And I love that! The roadmap is fantastic! I love that you can actually see what they're working on. Shows a good level of transparency

Yes, I switched mostly to stop supporting Amazon. I like it, although I only use it to update on my reading status. I don't really like to use other features haah

That's an excellent reason to switch and understandable, if using the basic features works for you, then it works 💪

That's fantastic! I've been using Goodreads since university and The StoryGraph didn't come until much later. Sometimes you get stuck in old routines.

Hi I’m using both atm…… going to do this for a year too….. I’ve not upgraded to plus yet but think I will as looks useful….. the free giveaways in UK is useful too but nothing has appealed to me yet:)
@GinaLuciaReads

Oooo interesting. I'm tempted to give it a go for half a year and then upgrade for half a year to see how it goes. I totally agree though, the giveaways are underwhelming so far but I have a feeling they'll get more interesting as time goes on.

I use both, but mostly Goodreads because more people use it (and I like to see what my friends are reading), but I like that Storygraph keeps track of how much you read in terms of pages each time, and not only complete books (especially considering I didn't finish many books last year, but I did read during the year. Also, I like the filter function of the TBR using moods and pace, great for deciding what to read next.
@GinaLuciaReads
@GinaLuciaReads 8 ай бұрын
I agree. They both serve different purposes for me too. The StoryGraph has some great stats, ways of filtering, and better book pages I find. But Goodreads has the more social aspect for sure.

Concerning the stats of the Read-books, do you know who decides things like the mood or pace of a book, if it is “funny”, “inspiring”, “hopeful” or “reflective”, etc., or medium paced and so on? Regarding especially the moods, those feel very subjective, so I get curious about who actually labels the books?
@GinaLuciaReads
@GinaLuciaReads 8 ай бұрын
They're done by readers. When you write a review of a book, you can add a lot of extra information like mood, pace, etc and then you can see on the page what most people 'voted' for

If you think something is really wrong (because some books are added and not correct) you can go to Report missing/incorrect information and ask them to change it.

I am new to Storygraph and wondering what the difference is between buddy reads and readalongs?
@GinaLuciaReads
@GinaLuciaReads 8 ай бұрын
Good question. I think a buddy read you start and invite up to 14 people too. A readalong can be up to 1000 people. I need to give both a try though because I've not yet.
@bumblewyn
@bumblewyn 5 ай бұрын
@@GinaLuciaReadsIn a buddy read you enter where you are in the book (for example 14%) and then comment on that section, and your comment will be spoiler marked for anyone who isn't at that place in the book yet. In a readalong the creator can create threads to discuss portions of the book (for example a thread to discuss each chapter), rather than allowing everyone to freely create a thread wherever they are in the book. Basically, readalongs are a little more organised especially when you have more people, because you probably wouldn't want a 1000 people's random comments on every page of a buddy read :'D

I really enjoy the states feature on Storygraph. I also like the fact that you can track how far you are in audiobook using hours and minutes which you can't do on Goodreads.
