Both my father and my older sister told me great things about 12 Angry Men. Thankfully they had a blu ray criterion copy at Barnes and Noble yesterday. I grabbed that and five other criterion films. Planning on grabbing more later on during the sale.

My film noir recommendation would be Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing (1956). That movie is completely awesome.

I plan to watch that one soon as I've owned it for so long, lol. Thanks for the rec, Conner!

Carnival of Souls is fantastically eerie! Detour is great as well, and if you watch the restoration interview before the film, you'll appreciate the film that much more. If you like Detour, I also recommend The Hitch-Hiker and Kiss Me Deadly.
@Cinefessions3 жыл бұрын
Awesome, Steve, thanks! I own Kiss Me Deadly, so I’ll check that out soon. Hitch-Hiker will be one I’ll have to grab. Thanks for the recs, and for watching!

@@Cinefessions Just make sure if you pick up the Hitch-Hiker from Kino Lorber, you get the more recent 2019 blu rather than the older one they put out in 2013. Here's the correct one: www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Hitch-Hiker-Blu-ray/246250/

I like the way you break down the categories for Criterion recommendations. I like your style and this is a well done and thought out video. Your picks are also excellent. Yeah, everyone recommends 12 Angry Men, but still, very well done and your picks would be a great entry point for anyone trying to get into Criterion. Subscribed.

Great list. I personally picked up the Godzilla Showa collection as I was looking at it for a while and the sale definitely made it 100% worth picking up.

I’ve been collecting Criterions for years and you just sold me on Jubal. All your other picks were great too (though I’m not the biggest fan of Robinson Crusoe 😂)! Awesome video!

For Westerns which is one of my jams even though I don’t own a single criterion Western I would go with Stagecoach. Movie is such a good story and setup and characters. Modern classic that I recently purchased and love is Punch Drunk Love. The July sale this year has already put a hurting on my pockets. I’ve just purchased: Fritz Lang’s “M”, Ingmar Bergman’s Seventh Seal, The Cameraman, Come and See, Memories of a Murder, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Anatomy of Murder and finally Polyester. But great information in your video. I liked your categories.

Fantastic haul! And thanks for the rec. I own that one on Criterion already, so I’ll have to check it out. Punch Drunk is another I’ve been meaning to watch. Thanks for watching!

You might want to take a look at Red River. It's a great western and John Wayne gives a really nuanced portrayal for once.

If you've not seen many silent films, I must suggest The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, M, Ivan the Terrible: Part II, Nosferatu, Sunrise, Haxan, Diary of a Lost Girl, and A Trip to the Moon.
@Cinefessions3 жыл бұрын
These are great recs, thank you! I have seen about half of them, and have loved most. Haxan is one I need to grab from Criterion soon because I want to see it quite badly. Sunrise is another I need to own eventually. Thanks again for the awesome recs, and for watching, Natalie!

A Night To Remember is GREAT movie. I highly recommend it. It's better than Titanic it just does have the F/X of Titanic.Night of the Living Dead is great Criterion as well. I can't wait for Friday there are so many title that I want to get. You should do another video like this for other boutique companies. I really enjoy it.

Wow great set of picks, I would like to add Harold Loyd The Freshman to silent picks and The Virgin Suicides to modern classic. I might have to check out Robinson Crusoe on Mars since i love Planet of The Apes original, Its on my top 10 of all time.

Not a bad selection, i have many of those; but you have to include any of Kurosawa's movies in your essential collection. My personal favorite is Hidden Fortress but you can't go wrong with Seven Samurai, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Ran, Kagemusha, or Throne of Blood. You might also want to take a look at Anatomy of a Murder, nice little twist at the end of this thriller.
@Cinefessions3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I own quite a few of those mentioned but need to watch some yet. I’m consdierin grabbing Kagemusha as I’m super interested in one of the supplements on there with George Lucas. Thanks for the recs and for watching!

Barnes and Noble’s regular price $39.99 Amazon prices have been $19.99 for a long time
@Cinefessions3 жыл бұрын
While Amazon does often have the Criterion BDs on sale, they’re typically closer to $25, and that doesn’t apply to all of them. So it’s definitely true you can find a decent price outside of the sale, it’s rare to find them at $20 when there isn’t the flash sale or the B&N sale. That’s been my experience, at least. Thanks for watching!

holy crap! are you the same guy who buys cheap movies in bargain stores? this is so uncharacteristic of a bargain hunter like you. criterion is one of the most expensive labels around. Their movies are only affordable twice a year when they go on sale at barnes and noble. I have to admit that they do put out some very high quality products. I learned about them when my brother wanted the complete wes anderson movies on blu-ray for his high school graduation present. The older titles are only available on criterion and they were like $40 a piece. I spent $320 for 8 movies and I later found out that I could have got them for $160 ($20 each) if I had bought them at Barnes and Noble in July.
@Cinefessions3 жыл бұрын
Haha! I've actually been surprised because I've gotten a similar comment a handful of times this week. Yup, I am definitely a bargain hunter, but I love me some boutique labels as well. In my eyes, getting a CC title for half off *is* a bargain, so I'm all about it, lol. Criterion is one of my favorite labels, and one of the biggest areas of my collection, so I love them. Sorry to hear you paid so much for your gift! I'm glad you know now, though, so you won't have to make that same mistake again, lol. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate the comment!
