Seven Days Alone in Northwestern Algonquin Park

My first solo journey of the year starts at access point #1 or Round Lake, I then spend the next seven days looping through North Tea, Bigger, Three Mile, Maple and Manitou just to name a few. Beautiful sunny hot days hinder the fishing, but the scenery is beautiful. The route is dotted with small lakes, creeks and too many portages to count. It was a great trip and the perfect way to start off the solo camping season, follow along with many more videos to come this year.

Glad I'm not the only one that feels anxious taking a solo trip. I worry more about not finding a portage and getting turned round or lost. But I will go despite that. I prefer earlier May. Good job man! Thanks for the video!

Early May or fall is the best, if your not anxious then your really excited either I think. I've learned to control that anxiety and use it and just trust your skills, people are much more capable than they think. Algonquin is a good spot to get that confidence up, well mapped, marked portages, but don't get me wrong in the interior it's very rugged. Cheers

Enjoyed the video, looking forward to more in the future. This trip of yours is very similar to my planned trip in that area this fall - only difference is that I'll be starting from Kiosk, counter clockwise to manitou / biggar. I'll be going to Erables and up through Mink instead of Maple Creek though, if only to extend my trip's distance. At the end of your video, you mentioned a bit more of a challenge. My first thought was Quetico, I think that would be a logical next step in both remoteness and ruggedness.

Quetico is on the list for sure, I’ve been to Wabakimi and that was real remote. I’ve had my eye on the Steel River for a while as well. Algonquin itself is a challenge enough, long portages, I’d like to go from biggar down to the Nippissing one day and over to Cedar. The route your going is no joke either, some of those were long uphill portages. Thanks for watching and good luck on the trip. My next one will be my journey down the Tim, by far the best trip I had in Algonquin. Hope to have edited in a couple weeks. Woodland Caribou is another one….endless possibilities in Ontario
