Richard de Soyza was a famous journalist and actor in Sri Lanka. His most famous movie is Yuganthaya. The name of the character he played in that movie is Malan Kabalana. That is the name of the main character in this book too :) Btw nice review. Best wishes from 🇱🇰

Yay for South Asian representation!!! I would really like to meet Van Gogh, I have always been moved by his life story and how all of his recognition has been after his lifetime, which is beyond sad. I would just like him to know that he and his work are important to the world and he has lived a worthy life. That's all.

Thanks for sharing this. Earlier in the year I read Pachinko and it made me crazy about historical fiction. I was searching for the next book neighbouring that experience and I get the feeling like chats with the dead is going to be ‘it.’ You’re right that if such books don’t have an impressive ending it can be dissatisfying. If I could chat with one dead person it would be princess Diana. Her murder still remains a mystery and although she was progressive, she wasn’t completely vocal on the atrocities of the British royal family. I would ask her to share her story openly and without any fear.

I would like to speak to Salman Rushdie (THE URGENCY IS GROWING 😅) i read haroun and sea of stories and was absolutely blown away by the way he writes... A children's book that has hidden topics of freedom of speech !! Woah! I am not sure what will I ask him (probably about his courage), i just want to listen him talk. I could ask him mundane questions like what is your favourite way to eat eggs or his favourite movie. I just want to fangirl in real life infront of him

Yesterday 08 Jan 23, I was in a mall in Gurgaon and picked up this book in a store. But before buying thought of looking into it. after going thru a few pages. could not understand, which is expected as am a starter into reading. Thought of finding some reviews on YT. Came across your review. Now with a little insight which seems pretty interesting, will try again and read it. I hope I will be able to finish this book and develop some interest. Will get back after i finish. Thanks for the wonderful review.

I would like to meet my Nani. Never met her. My mother says the humour in our family comes from her. On a funny note, I would ask her if my mother actually was that hardworking that she claims now... She is killing me with diwali safai these days😂😂 Also, Vincent Van Gogh! I'm reading his biography these days and I'm intrigued.

I think i would talk to Douglas Adams because just imagine being able to talk to someone who produced all the insanely ridiculously funny yet witty stories in the Hitchhiker's series. It would be really interesting to have some version of the Babel fish in your ear to talk to the dead instead of it doing its usual job of translation. (Maybe the dead speak a different language too so it works out). Also i would probably mess with him and tell him that we've reached such levels of technological advancement since his death that there is now an AI that is in fact computing the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything.

OUUHHHH THAT IS A HARD QUESTION. Okay, firstly, depends on what the T&C are like, in this scenario of being granted the ability to talk to someone who's passed away, am I the only one getting the chance, or is everyone getting it? Because if it's just me, I'd much rather someone else I know about take it (I'll elaborate in DMs) because I know that person would probably appreciate it more. Okay, but otherwise I think I'd probably talk to John Keats or Emily Dickinson (very cliché, I know) and like just tell them that they're still remembered, both of them exceptional poets who died believing that they haven't made a mark in the literary world and just, yeah, like. I think they'd appreciate it.

If I can I would really like to meet the author Basheer. I don't want to ask him anything I would simply like to hear what he has to say. Just be a fly on his wall. I have always imagined what he was like in real life from other authors who were his acquaintance.

Your review is below average given the fact that you do not describe the characters of Mali , DD, Jaki and beautifully crafted interactions that elivate this book to win a booker price. I felt like you skim through this book for sake of the video without actually reading the book. Honesty your review do not justify bribrilliance of "Seven Moons of Mali Almeda"

Disagree. I just came across this review and love the way she outlined her reasons for enjoying the book. Particularly the historical knowledge that was gained while reading it, that was a big factor in many readers engagement of the text. Great job!
