Mashup of Prehistoric Planet and Seven Worlds, One Planet. This time featuring the trailer score with Sia. And new paleo geography shots from space!
Synopsis:
Millions of years ago huge forces ripped apart the Earth's crust creating seven spectacular continents. Over time, each continent developed its own remarkable wildlife, full of dinosaurs.
66 million years ago, these continents included Austral-Antarctica, the last fragment of the former super-continent Gondwana. India was also once a part of Gondwana but was now fully isolated and heading north. Just as today Asia, Europe, North America and South America were fully established continents, but they had yet to aquire their modern conturs. Large parts of the lower continental shelfs were flooded by the high sea levels that followed the warm temperatures of the latest cretaceous period. From time to time certain continents like North America and Asia would also connect through temporary land bridges, which in turn allowed animals to migrate and expand into new habitats. But once these geological connections closed, populations became seperated and evolved in their own unique evolutionary paths, creating an almost endless diversity of Dinosaurs; many of which we will never uncover or understand. The deep past is shrouded in mystery.
Footage in this edit was recorded from the Apple TV plus series Prehistoric Planet, which you can watch here: tv.apple.com/s...
All the Earth/space shots of the different continents were created by me, Paleo Edits, the editor of this mashup video.
Music composed by Jacob Shea and Hans Zimmer. Feat. Sia.

3:19 Straya! Absolutely incredible earth models! Think the Australian alps are way way way too big in the model though

Thanks!! And strayan singer, if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps the mountains are too big but, if nothing else, there would've been 66 million years worth of weathering and erosion between then and now ;) There is also quite a bit of exaggerated topography in the overall rendering to give it more dimension. In real life, you would barely even notice the depth of the himalayas from space. Rule of cool ruled out. But I've been considering remaking this model in the future, as I've learned a lot / improved the technique between this one and the Permian model. We'll see.

Magnificent tribute, and those ancient continents look so cool. Honestly each of your edits would make a fine actual documentary concept on their own. Keep up the outstanding work 🤘🤘

Although not exactly same format, I have thought about geographic-themed Prehistoric Planet episodes. South America, Asia, Tethys Ocean (Including North Africa & European islands), Polar Region (Including Alaska, Antarctica, and Zealandia), and Laramidia.

Amazing. Will you do a Seven Worlds One Planet (both trailer + opening theme) mashup again, but with the Mesozoic, Paleozoic & Cenozoic era (from every since paleodocumentary) together, please!?🙏👍😉🌌

The far future? All I know is: the last organism on Earth will be microscopic. The rest is almost complete speculation, which I personally don't care for.

The Future Is Wild exists but if we are talking about a new spec zoo doc, you would need go special effects and props, many different environments, and many different scientists to make predictions.

Hadn't the Western Interior Seaway already mostly closed by the Late Maastrichtian?
@PaleoEdits
@PaleoEdits 3 ай бұрын
I think so, yes. Although I've read several conflicting views on the subject, such as lack of interchange of fauna between appalachia and laramidia in the maastrichtian. Might be preservation bias. Regardless, I based this map on 70 Ma rather than 66 Ma (whence the asia part of PhP is set) to increase the likelyhood of the western interior seaway. Just because it looks cool.
