Wow, bought this at a garage sell long time ago and its been sitting in basement, walked by it today and thought I would checkout some videos on it, I now remember one Sunday morning, I listened to my dad and mom talking on their phones, just a fluke out of a different city, she was sure surprised when I called her and teased her about the conversation.

I love this scanner! I use an Energizer Lithium 9 v battery for the memory. These batteries have a 10 year shelf life. Most importantly, they do not leak like the way Alkaline 9v batteries do. This will protect your scanner.

Thanks for another interesting and informative video. 👍 What I like in particular about your videos is that you cut to the chase without waffle and you speak at a fast clip. With many channels I have to crank the speed up by 25% or 50% in order not to go to sleep while they drawl on in monotone.

Have a 10ft satellite dish I want to make a Dobsonian mount for a more balanced control for tracking with an optical webcam with scope... telescope hopefully with the cams hot lens removed ideally for some broader spectroscopy. Off on potentially using the PVC roller coaster track DIY design for the azimuth/horizon rail with casters turned to the pipe contour. If I can find a trampoline ring in great shape... that might be the easier route to go. Thanks for sharing the detail.

I noticed on my 90s PRO-2006 scanner the other day the rubber feet in the rear were liquifying. The electronics are fine, but I have never seen the failure of rubber feet unless they fall off when the adhesive dries. It could be there is some chemical reaction occurring from the scanner sitting on top of the cheap charlie "Kathy Ireland" desk my wife bought me. Who knows what toxic chemicals are in the varnish!

Sad and strange Realistic never put a RS232 interface into these $400 scanners, at the least a memory or block dump to and from a PC. They could have had full remote control as well. the 2004 has DIP package CPU, so it is theoretically possible to change that one to a custom CPU. I recommend Bill Cheeks's two books on the Pro-2004/5/6 well worth finding and buying. For theory operating info and modding info.

There aren't as many choices as there used to be but you can still buy scanners. The high-end ones that receive digital transmissions are actually quite pricey but I'm told by a friend who owns a few that they work well.

@@SevenFortyOne Full Watch as always. Analog is still alive! I have used Unitrunker and a RTL-SDR dongle to monitor P25 in our area but was surprised to find a lot of analog FM on VHF and UHF still being used. I use the scope function on my Yaesu FTM-400XDR. I wish the radio would decode DMR but I suppose I could get a Raspberry Pi setup to run a decoder and plug it into my radio audio out.
