Yes, that was a really top of the line radio in its day. Nice to know yours still works.

The 3 pin mains lead connector is called a "Euro Connector", a good reliable electrical connection which is rated up to 13 amps, very common in the UK on most household appliances.

When my FRG7 got fried by lightning, I ran out and bought an FRG7700 which had just came on the market. It still works great and I really don't view it as a vintage or old radio. It has nearly everything I want and I'm still happy with it. A better fine tuning system would be great and the noise blanker is marginal, but we can't have everything!

Very nice looking receiver for the era ,, that’s almost the exact same tuning knob as my TS-830s . Lots of familiarities in receivers and transceivers between the competition then ,, and now

Had a "Frog" 7700 for sev yrs. Used mine for HF Aero comms which in that pre-ACARS era were plentiful. It performed very well. Always wanted the VHF upconverter, but never found one.

Great receiver. I even like the orange LEDs, which are much easier on the eyes than blue when doing late night DXing in a fairly dark room.

Nice rig! Like the adaptor to listen to vhf and uhf! My only modern receiver is an Icom R-75 that I bought new for myself as a retirement gift. Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Nice radio Rob! While I kicked myself initially for purchasing the Icom IC-705 it makes an excellent shortwave listening radio having the HF, VHF and UHF bands. Thanks for sharing! I hope you won't get blasted too hard by the weather coming your way. While it is cold and windy here it doesn't compare to the storms we had in the 60s-80s. It sure gets sensationalized in the news media though.

👍Nice classic receiver that sounds nice. Thanks for sharing. Having a decent front facing speaker makes a big difference. Lack of narrow CW filtering is a shame. However, an active AF CW filter connected to the phone or SP jack would help significantly (without internally modifying the set).

Hey, that radio looks familiar. LOL I've had mine for about a week now, and I've been having a lot of fun tuning around the bands with it. One thing I really like to do is is to tune into WRMI Legends and listen to the tunes.

I bought one online that was in mint condition until it was shipped with very little padding. The outside still is minty but the magnifying lens over the dial shattered from a hard knock on the dial which also caused the LED display to be DOA. It does play great and the analog dial is still usable and accurate. I picked up one of the cheap LCD freq counter modules off ebay for 10 bucks & hardwired it to the receiver which was an easy job with no need to remove circuit boards. Still a shame that it took a beating.

The newer FRG-8800 has a better VHF converter system , its an internal module and it displays the correct frequency on the display. But the FRV-8800 is rare.

BEAUTIFUL. These Receivers are built to last. Easy to maintain and repair. The Sound Quality is excellent with just the original onboard Speaker to use. I prefer analog over digital. Tnx for this interesting Content, Rob. Merry Christmas to you and your Family. I am looking forward to watch more Videos from you in 2023. A decent working comms receiver is going to cost 400 USD. anybody who just want s to dabble and see what the fuss is about can buy a cheaper SWL radio or a SDR to connect to a PC. The appeal of a proper old school comms receiver is the aesthetics and the ability to twiddle knobs. See the Mackay marine receivers for a prime example of the wow factor. Be warned, radios can become a collecting hobby.
