As an actual 17 year-old, this was a such amazing advice. Especially for me, Antoni's "you don't need a label" since I've been struggling with thinking people would be mad if I "changed my mind" again, since I've already done it once. Also here's some random advice for fellow 17 year- olds (or just anyone) get a pet if you can, even if its just a fish or something, because I've noticed that since I got a cat, I feel much more appreciative of nature, and you will always feel loved by someone that way.
@juliareichel93645 жыл бұрын
The anxiety that people will call you a liar or attention seeker if you "change your mind" about your label is real. But never forget it's THEM who require you label yourself so they'll know how to treat you (differently). Once you step out of cishet space, there's endless discovery to be made, so relax and enjoy it. I'm reaching 30 and I still have moments of "oh, this is also part of my identity/or this isn't as much part of me as I thought it was" and that's okay. And if on some days you don't feel like it, just give your new kitten extra snuggles. :)
@smudgerat96242 жыл бұрын
When I was 17-19 I changed my “label” several times and continued to develop my understanding of myself into my 20s. I definitely felt like I had to have a label in order to explain myself to people, and you are changing so much up until your mid-20s that your self-identity is bound to change in some ways. I felt awkward/guilty/“fake” for having to correct what I’d previously come out as, I wish I’d been confident enough just be myself without having to announce myself. Also what you said about pets is very true, my anxiety calmed quite a bit when I was finally able to have a cat again. Having pet rats did actually make me more anxious though (I had a lot of dreams where they were escaping/in danger/dead) so it’s not universally true that pets make life better.

I have the same identity as Antoni and I love him so much, and I'm so thankful for him talking about this!! I always kinda refer to myself as bi but I feel like it doesn't fit me very well, and I struggled so much with trying to find a label when I was younger, thinking "maybe I'm straight afterall" when no, I'm not straight and also no gay. It annoys me a lot when people call Antoni gay, or call them "5 gay guys" when he's repeatedly said that he doesn't identify as gay.
