Several states are eliminating property taxes! In today’s video I’m sharing more about why it’s so important to eliminate property taxes and sharing North Dakota Congressmen Rick Becker and his information on the topic as well. For the series of videos he post, I’ll link them here for reference and research.

If you've been paying 30 years into a community and a mortgage by the age of 65 you've earned the right to go without having to pay property taxes. All the money that you would otherwise spend should go to your elder Care. We don't need you out on the streets begging because we stole your house. Because of a tax you shouldn't have to pay.
@serenitycox217
@serenitycox217 6 күн бұрын
You make a good point, though I think the issue comes when thinking about people who inherit homes or land. Those people haven't paid into the community at all yet, they are presumably going to benefit from the property without having to had put anything into it...

@@serenitycox217 So some sort of sales tax? How do you fund the school. The Catholic School model works because you have motivated people behind it.. Not all people who have children are very motivated. Some people have issues with responsibility.. Being depended upon and accountable to people can be kind of challenging it seems for an ever-increasing population of dependent people... Some communities need more help than others what does the funding mechanism look like. I am all about having a hard look at this. teachers aren't getting paid near what they should be and the benefits aren't very good either anymore they just keep taking bigger and bigger chunks of money out to provide your benefits it's getting to the point where we're going to be paying to go to work.

@@serenitycox217 The same kind of goes for people who just move in and move out for the benefits of the school system I would definitely move to a community where are the property tax sunsets at 60 years old or after 35 years of paying in whatever comes first. Of course the new owner would have the same 60/35 plan Where our families can be free of that liability on the balance sheet. I think a community that did that would have to be careful about their growth. Maybe have a plan before they start doing it.

@@chasl3645 I can't say for sure what the answer is, but I think you're on the right track... I like your ideas, and feel they have a well rounded fairness and compromise to them. I was going to suggest maybe a one time hand over tax when shifting ownership, or potentially a new tax category for education specifically. Based on income and the amount of children you have?.. lots of ideas here anyway... But that would have to be further fleshed out through legislation, or within communities. The point is this is a convoluted issue with many things to consider and work around. I'm not at all saying this is a bad idea by any means. Just that it needs to be carefully considered from every possible angle before enacted.

I would love to know if any states are seriously considering it. Hawaii has the lowest rate. CA's rate is not worse than most states; our property values kill us. ~1.2%/yr means you pay about $1 tax per month for every $1000. The median house price right now in CA is about $900k. So, unless you have been in it a while and have some Prop 13 protection, your taxes are about $900 per month!

That isn't entirely true. In many counties, the school tax portion (which is usually the largest portion) goes away at 65 (some at 62). While this exemption is based on income, that income limit is generous. For example, in Gwinnett County you can make up to $117k and get this exemption.

I didn't see anything in Georgia state law that talks about income affecting a property tax exemption. I see where if you are a 100% vet, Georgia will give you an property tax exemption exemption up to $117 K of the value of your home, but with the avg home value being above $400 these days, that's still a lot to be taxed on. I am a 100% disabled vet, I live in Gwinnett County, and my property tax went up $500 several months ago. If I was retired and living on a fixed income, I would probably have to sell my home because I couldn't afford the property tax increase.

@@bruced4994 County sets the rules, not state. For seniors age 65+ that $117k is household income, not home value reduction credit. We were able to get $2700 school tax exemption making our taxes $1400 on a $525k value home.

There is massive fraud involving schools, bonds, pensions, appraisals. The taxes on property, especially primary residence is fraud and it's going to crash out people's pensions if not solved. Do we want schools at the expense of tons of homeless who worked, paid the house off, but happen to live in over-appraised areas? The schools are literally going to crash out the American economy if the property tax problem isn't solved. The issue is probably, going to end up at the Supreme Court as a RICO and Chevron deference case if states don't hurry and get off property tax addiction and fraud.

While "States are doing studies" "reviewing proposals" PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR CHILDHOOD AND ONLY HOMES DUE to the egregious abuse of property taxes through over tax assessments of their homes. There is a very well versed attorney/accountant Mr. Mitch Vexler in Texas who has a movement with petition and has filed court cases to rid property taxes. He hopes to take it to Supreme Court. Many States have had a surplus budget for multiple years. Did anyone who pays Real Estate Property taxes get a large reduction in their property taxes? We think not. Shame Shame on Every State municipality that is grossly fleecing the Elderly, Veterans, Retirees and Homeowners with egregious Real Estate Property tax bills! Where are the State representatives to put a stop to this madness??!! People ARE losing their homes. WHY SHOULD homeowners have to pay ridiculously high property taxes to compensate for commercial buildings not paying their property taxes!!! The municipalities MADE the BAD investments and allowances to those businesses NOT the Homeowners!!! How can these crooked tax assessors be allowed to overvalue someone's property by hundreds of thousands of dollars, when they are not investors and those homes are their only homes. NOT ALL States have HOMESTEAD, not sure WHY??? But Why should an elderly person, over 60 years old, only on Social Security/Pension, who only has one residence, be charged $28,000k per year for their home! Anyone 60 years of age or older should not have to pay property taxes at all for their homes as that is their only residence. Property Taxes, HOA Fees, Condo Fees, Overpriced homes, are making hard working taxpayers lose their only property (Home, Condo). How can it be legal to suddenly raise Condo fees by 40%. How can it be legal to raise HOA Fees by 50%. Many areas are becoming like Detroit and Mississippi - desolate and empty as the working class is continuously fleeced. The vile tax assessors are getting multi-year promotions using Taxpayer dollars because these tax assessors ARE Overvaluing people's properties to bring in money to the municipalities. They don't care that people end up homeless (many veterans and elderly) or their home comes into foreclosure because they had to borrow against equity and credit cards to try and pay their property taxes or HOA or Condo fees. Any representative in office who has an issue with keeping the elderly from losing their home should be shamed. Where are the State representatives to put a stop to this madness?!

They're taxing well water? It takes electricity to run the pump, so, it already costs to operate the well, and the power is usually, taxed. So, that's a tax on tax, not to mention well owners pay for their own repairs, not the government. Isn't water a basic essential of life, same as breathing? People die in less time without water than without food. My opinion is that the water in most of The U.S. isn't safe to drink, and it should be free by now and all cities should offer free potable water. Is this the era of science and technology or not? We got AI? We can live without that. Not water. Aren't there volunteers that go to other countries to dig wells so people have free safe water? But we tax it here.....I can't bear knowing some places do this....

@@rosafalls8068 I wanna correct myself. As of now, there is no such thing as well tax but the government has been planning to implement one, and we all no what that means. Drilling wells need to be permitted which involves a fee. This country, Hungary, has the most types of taxes in Europe and by the way non of the countries are doing well. Not long ago in the 60s, 70s, the use of water was free and the irony of all is that since the country is located in a geological basin, there is a large volume of groundwater that could provide for everybody but it has not been utilized. Governments could not care less, they are just talk, no action. Both of them the former communist parties, their offshoots and the so called right side. Water in Hungary is still good quality but who knows what they put into that. There is enough water on this planet to provide even for 10 billion people. The only thing that is needed for water treatment to be potable is energy but the u.s has enough energy, she just has to be a bit more independent. Everything is about energy and I know there is free energy but it has been suppressed, but hopefully within the next decade or 20 years we'll be given access to that but change has to come now. Yes, we have all of this technology and AI but our living condition are getting worse and worse and the western world is turning into a big slum. Maybe, Florida is still ok..

Eliminating property tax is a great first step. We've lived in numerous places, mainly in FL. The govt's answer is always " just give us more". Yet nothing improves. If you give more and more money and get less and less service. there needs to be a change--public education being THE WORST. We are saddled by local and Fed govt taxes that are unaffordable due to dumb spending locally and overspending Federally. All with no accountability.

I think the income tax is the worst of the taxes. The Founding Fathers explicitly opposed it and said it would be the ruin of the nation if imposed. Thus, it was ILLEGAL for the first 100 years of America. When they made it legal, they did so on the basis of a lie, claiming it would only be a tiny amount taxed upon the ultra wealthy for the purpose of eliminating poverty of the ultra poor. Instead, it was widely imposed, and used to grow federal govt power that nobody votes for. At the same time, they created the Federal Reserve and started creating the national debt, which was at ZERO in that time. Please remember, if you think you've already been looted, you haven't yet paid your share of the national debt.

Strange how I happened across this today. I’ve been in a correspondence exchange with my local Property Appraisers office concerning this very subject. Particularly the multiple school tax assessments. Governments appetite to spend our money for, in many cases who knows what, is insatiable and all they have to do is pass new milage rates within the statute guidelines. Anyway I realize they are just administrators following state laws, well sort of, so it’s our state legislature and governor that need to hear from we the people. I’m requesting the county budget line item by line item that comprises the tax and therefore mils, applicable statutes and their written policy as a start. Im well into my retirement years and this theft must stop! I was still paying my mother’s tax in her 90’s. You think she could have lived a better life without that burden? Yet as you say. Don’t pay and they confiscate your property and sell it. After working hard your whole life, paying your mortgage and insurance and the government can do that to you?

Eliminating property taxes for primary residences would be a good thing. Eliminating property taxes all together would ensure that no one will ever own a home again, as people and companies with more money will buy up all of the property and there will be none left for anyone else. Here in Michigan we already have a problem with second home buyers taking all of the available inventory, driving up prices, and driving residents out of their communities. Without property taxes, investment companies would scoop up even more than they are now because it would decrease the cost to hold those properties. After the land was stolen from my native ancestors, my family members were given small individual allotments. No sooner did they do this than property taxes were instated and the allotments were taken away. My ancestors were left with no place to exist on the earth. It took generations for our family to regain ownership of a place to exist. The more people that came the higher the cost went, keeping it just out of reach. Then came the resorters and the investors driving costs even higher. Our children will never be able to afford a home. They do not have the same access to opportunity as those from outside our community. Even if they could acquire a property, they would never be able to keep up with the property taxes. Therefore, I would urge you to only consider eliminating property taxes on primary residences.

Another item is Vehicles. At least in most states. If you purchase a vehicle in most states, if you sell it even 10 yrs old+ they will access tax based on the value its being sold on, I've heard of a state or two that access the tax based upon the MSRP regardless if you sold the vehicle for a dollar. THAT I don't know how that is legal let alone lawful, the two are not the same. for example, "at one time it used to be LEGAL to own slaves in this country, that does not mean it was lawful" Lawful attaches a morality where legal/illegal is based upon someones policies. The same can be said for the "legal Dictionary definitions" of Laws vs Statutes, Ordinances, Policy's, rules, codes, regulations, and everyone's favorite - Mandates. Law is based upon crime, whereas the others are based upon policies. A crime is ONLY committed when you hurt someone, damage or cause injury to someones property [Both of which are stated to be financially related], or commit fraud whether written, verbal, or in an action taken place. If you haven't done any of those things, or a combination thereof, you've not committed a crime, therefore not broken the Law. If you were speeding, which is a part of the VEHICLE CODE [ANY STATE], that's not breaking the law, that's violating a code.. with subsequent statutes attached to it

1. Property seizure and eviction enforced by a Sheriff based upon non payment of taxes, in my case - around 10k over three years, is incredibly disproportionate considering the value of the property. To me, it's mind blowing. There is no incentive to the state to go beyond covering their back taxes at the auction. You've just lost the balance, great. 2. I almost wouldn't mind paying my property taxes if the input was reflected in the results. Unfortunately they don't seem to and it doesn't look like more money would change that. The public schools are turning out too many subpar graduates, with their heads full of nonsense and ill prepared for everyday life. The roads... I shouldn't even get started on that. We all know... 3. Renters voting for property tax increases thinking that they don't pay property tax, OR, that they are going to stick it to their landlords... crack me up. Thinking that they are going to get the rewards without the cost... Oh bless their hearts.

I live in a state where our school system is paid for through property taxes. In said state, the taxes dedicated to schools go into a pool and the suburbs end up subsidizing the cities school systems. Where it might cost $15k to educate a pupil in the suburbs, it will cost $25k in cities. The amount of was, fraud and abuse in schools is palpable. There should be a yearly audit in all school systems. Boggles my mind the insistence for free before school care, after school care, breakfasts, lunches & sometimes dinners. I guess pb&j or a cheese sandwich is too expensive for parents these days.

Here in Santa Fe, the revenuers are using Google Earth Pro to look back in time at satellite photos and compare them with recent images to see whose property has changed. They use an algorithm to find the changes then they look up each changed property to see if the owner informed them about the "increased value" and if not, the entire property gets reassessed at today's market value. And, they are so proud of their scheme that they announced it in their "pat on the back" yearly newsletter!

What I don’t understand is why don’t you just pay a flat tax fee on your house when you buy it like every other product that you buy why are you taxed every year on something you are supposed to own how this problem got as bad as it is is what astonishes me why did we the people let this happen to begin with, that’s what I don’t understand. I understand what those taxes go for, but maybe just maybe the federal government needs to tax us less and some of those taxes need to go to our state to fund things like schools and our police force but the simple fact of property taxes, you technically never own your own home that’s just wrong, you’re the one paying for it, but if you don’t pay those property taxes, your county can come and rip you out of your house that is wrong and the people need to take a stand against tyrannical dictatorship

I do believe this is a good thing to advocate for. Though I have to say that I really feel like this is something that could come back to bite us if not enacted with great consideration. For instance I don't believe that this would have the desired effect if not paired with a limit to the amount of property one could own. That would leave too much room for the wealthy to buy as much as they want, without there ever being a legal way for the government to keep that in check. Also I strongly feel as though companies and corporations should be exempt from this relief, as they are presumably never going to have to worry about not receiving enough income, and if that does happen they will likely move elsewhere anyway. But I do completely agree that we (the people) should absolutely only have to _buy_ something once.
