But maybe they are stressed because the point isn't the numbers but Lumon's ability to make "productive" workers. MDR could just be test subjects and the point is just to show severed employees can be motivated to hit an arbitrary quota for an arbitrary task. Management is stressed because if they don't meet quota, this iteration of the test is a failure and we know from Helly's outie's event that this team was going to be their big showpiece for how severance is good and useful.

the last theory about lumon controlling more than just their building actually has more behind it, and i think the biggest examples of that are that they have a pretty obvious connection to pip's bar and grille (devon laughs in the first episode and says 'of course it's pip's') which doesn't mean much on its own, but beyond that, they control employee housing which might even have a physical connection to the lumon building (hence the houses on petey's map) and maybe biggest of all, the town they live in is literally called kier, it's on irving's map in the final episode
@vissna-u5o15 күн бұрын

Pip is one of Lumon's former CEOs, the restaurant that Mark and his date (sorry forgot her name) go is also named after one of the Keagans, but I think this is pretty normal considering that influential/rich families tend to own a lot of businesses. My theory is that Cobel was a test subject for severance that failed and she lost all her memories from her previous life. That’s why she has a shrine for the Eagan family, similar to how Irving shows his obsession for the Eagans within the Perpetuity wing. I also think severance doesn’t take away instincts or habits. Irving is a pretty good example of this. He’s got a knack for paintings on the severed floor and also paints above ground. Additionally. When his severed self wakes up on the surface, he’s quickly able to recognize that he needs to grab keys, associate them with a car, unlock the car, turn the ignition, back the car out and switch gears to start driving. All of this while he’s only ever used keycards and never seen a traditional key before, let alone a car. Following the same assumptions with Cobel, she was probably a practicing nurse of some sort which is why she’s able to help Mark’s sister. Her position as a nurse may have placed her in prime position to partake in a clinical trial of the severance program.

All of the innies have some instinctual knowledge of their outies lives. Like they aren’t blank slates, they know English, how to walk and talk and social norms (mostly). These aren’t things you are born with, so I assume there are some things that are muscle memory that just bleed through
@Brumak4eva3 күн бұрын
Cobel has a medical tag from what is very likely to be her mother on her shrine, as well as a respirator (or something similar) that Lumon was sued over due to a malfunction. I think Cobel harbors resentment towards Lumon for her mother's death and/or injury, and that must tie into why she's so interested in reintegration. Oh, Cobel's name is also on the list of supposedly severed names in the control room! Forgot about that one.

My theory: "The Board" are a group of the super-wealthy obsessed with achieving immortality by transferring their consciousness into a new body. This is the true objective of Severance, and everything they are doing is in service of that research. My theory : Since they are severed, and based on the booklet the numbers elicit some emotions from the severed folk, the numbers itself don’t matter but the reaction to the numbers does. In a severed state their brains work differently and since Lumon is a bio-engineering company primarily working on the brain, they take this information and utilize it for their bio-weapons/clones on the outside. Each department of Lumon works on a separate region of the brain and the office is modeled like a brain. The innies perform and then the outies are observed. Bit of a half baked theory but I think it goes somewhere..

Haven't seen any fan theories yet saying that Lumon was started by Barney to finally get Ben Wyatt to work there

Was John Tuturo making a Big Lebowski reference? “That’s just your opinion, man!”

John Turturro appreciating the intelligence of the theories! Thanks, brother. 😂❤ EDIT: I'M CRYING. NOT WHAT COULD MAKE HIS ARMS FREQUENTLY SORE.

my pet theory is the chips are AI and are essentially being trained on human experience, and being refined to eventually be loadable with preserved consciousnesses, providing immortal versions that can be uploaded into a host and controlled by Lumen.

I think they're more of a relay device that sends information to a larger system that can be used for that later, to preserve what they have of that person's traits and personality. If they are reanimating people after they've died, they would have to reprogram the brain. At least part of the original memory would be gone from lack of oxygen.

I really hope it isnt that because it sounds boring, falling back to the basic AI excuse would just be super lazy

I do think that the AI training thing maps onto MDR if only as analogy

I agree that there's a connection between the numbers and human consciousness. In the Lexington Letter we learn that the possible emotions invoked by the numbers are WO (despair), FC (joy), DR (anxiety), and MA (rage). Wo = Woe, FC = Frolic, DR = Dread, MA = Malice a.k.a. the four tempers found in each human consciousness according to Keir Eagan. And we know that Keir was all about conquering these tempers in order to control oneself.

4:21 isn’t he sore just because he holds his son? Some theories don’t have to be very complicated

Makes a lot of sense actually

Why would he be sore from that? I have 2 kids and I've never been sore from holding them.
@michellexbeauty983211 күн бұрын
That’s what I was thinking, and Milchick said he had multiple kids (if we assume that’s true) then he probably carries his kids a lot
@michellexbeauty983211 күн бұрын
@@rosecity_chrisperhaps he’s not just holding his kids- maybe he does lots of activities with them, including physical sports or something. I think it’s an interesting assumption that Dylan may be has sore muscles from playing with his kids. There’s a good chance Dylan’s outie is very close with his kids
@cheetah21910 күн бұрын
Yeah I agree here. My buddy was telling me he works out simply so he can hold his children easily as they get heavier

The show does give off Truman Show vibes and for me personally big CIA mind control experiments from the 1960's under Sidney Gottleib. I just watched the season over the past 2 days and came away loving it, the concept is soooo good. Themes of work/life balance, consciousness, subcsoncious thoughts, color theory, mind control, memory blocks, trauma and ptsd, corporatocracy, the machine-like nature of capitalism, what is the self, ignorance vs knowledge, meritocracy, nepotism, conformity, rebellion, and ofcourse how jazz makes a person feel haha. Glad I didn't have to wait a few years for season 2, can't wait to watch it.

Finally, someone else sees the blue/red thing. The colour distinction is in Mark's clothing (red PJs/blue work clothes) in the opening sequence. Petey, who is un-severing, wears Mark's red/blue striped bathrobe. Ricken's red book cover.
