I live on the Canadian Prairie and when I moved to the prairie it is a whole new kind of storm. I agree with a thunder shirt of Finn as my dog got so she would go and get it when she she wanted it on. We put it on her for fireworks also.

I moved from sunny California to Nebraska years ago, and the first couple of years we were so blown away by the powerful thunderstorms...and all the Nebraskans didn't even blink while they were happening. Part of the fun of moving to a new place is discovering the different kinds of weather.

My best friend lives in Boca Raton Florida and it rains most every day around 3 in the afternoon during the summer. And Florida is coming into their rainy season so you will have to get used to the daily rain, lightening and humidity.

When I have thunder and lighting I tuck my weighted blanket over my dog and she sleeps right through it. I also do it when the neighbours are loud at night so she doesn’t bark. I love the blanket and so does my pup win win.

It is a good idea to keep food and supplies to last at least a week or two due to unpredictable situations that can arise. Since the pandemic, I have kept at least enough food and supplies to last at least two weeks except milk. It has been very helpful.

The part of Texas I live in is at the bottom of " tornado alley" so we always get crazy spring weather and the leftovers from Oklahoma's tornados/severe weather. I always have a friend call or text me to check in and it's usually "yeah, I'm fine...just sheltering in my closet!" LOL

I moved to the Gulf Coast in 2019 and just had our first two hurricane days back in early November of 2020. It’s definitely different when you’re not from somewhere with these storms. The day I arrived in August of 2019, I needed gas after a 1,200 mile drive and a hurricane threat was out there so it took 3 gas stations to get gas to even make it to my new apartment. It was definitely an intense weather welcome. I’m used to tornadoes, hail storms, and snow storms back in Michigan. This weekend’s storms were actually kind of delightful! A little spring/summer welcome and the perfect weather for napping.

It's interesting seeing the storm above the trees. I'm on the west coast of Florida and the rain and storms on this side were crazy too. We had an empty trash can sitting by the house and when we went out after the heavy rain, it was full of water! The can has holes in it for drainage but the rain was so hard and fast it filled it and didn't drain until we moved it. On the ground, it's scary because you're beneath the trees and expect them to break apart but I imagine in the air is a different scary. Our cats do not like the heavy thunder sounds.

A few years ago now we were driving from Orlando to Miami to get on our cruise ship and I will never forget the lightning storm that we were driving through. Absolutely no rain at all but the lightning was crazy! All of it sideways and lighting up the clouds. Also, someone that I follow on YT (The Wads) lives in Tampa, FL and shops at Publix/Costco quite a bit and one of her favourite items is the chicken/apple sausage. You should try it sometime because she absolutely raves about it. I wish I could get it here in Ontario, Canada but alas, I cannot. Thanks for sharing that storm with us!!

You are about to come into hurricane season which runs usually from sometime in May to November. You ned to have an evacuation plan. Also need to have an emergency food and water supply. Check with the locals about what supplies are best to store. And dont forget about Finn. He may need a thundershirt to help with anxiety

My friends were vacationing in Panama City Beach last week. They woke up early (which is unlike them) and decided to go ahead a leave. Shortly after leaving is when the tornado hit. God was watching after them, no doubt. They encountered horrible storms all the way back to NC. What should have been an 8 or 9 hour drive took 13 hours! I know how intense coastal storms can be. Make sure you get you some LED lanterns and extra chargers on hand in case your power goes out. I know people have advised the thundershirts and all. There is also a product called Rescue Remedy you can get to give him that will help relax him but not drug him. They also make it for humans. It is good stuff.

You might want to look into getting Finn a “thundershirt “ and some doggy calm supplements for the thunderstorms.it’s heartbreaking when they get so scared. Most pet stores carry both. ♥️

I just saw this and wanted to advise U to get a thunder vest for Finn, it will comfort him during these storms. I'm originally from PA and had one for Starly and when we moved to Utah in 2013 she didn't need it so I donated it to DI, hope this helps him, luv U all!❤

We had a thunderstorms our first year in Florida and lightening hit right outside of our living room window, it hit the ground so hard it shook the whole house and lit up the whole living room scared me so much. Then we had to flee our city and go to another state to escape the hurricane threats that same first year.... It's was an adventure for sure. Stay safe

Hi Jared and Britt! I’m from Canada but lived in Bonita Springs and Naples, Florida for 10 years. (1996-2006) May to November is hurricane season down there. While I lived there it wasn't too bad but in recent years, Florida has had a couple nasty ones hit. ( I was visiting in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew went through Homestead, it was a hurricane 5) anyway, what you saw today was nothing, just be prepared. You should actually read up about a hurricane evacuation kit and what to do in the event that you have to evacuate. Not to be a downer but best be safe!! Most importantly, when they say evacuate, don't wait...there are only a couple highways going North and they get congested fast.💕🤟🏻

The strongest thunderstorm I've ever experienced was actually like 2 weeks ago. I was at my friends house in her apartment, we were in her room laughing and I told her it would rain at 4pm. At around 3:30pm my friend (let's call her sarah) her sister (let's call her ivy) opened the balcony and I heard the thunder. Cause we were on a high floor we saw all the trees being blown away and every second there was lightning. It was so severe I got shocked! It was only an orange warning and it acted like a red. It was heavy raining for an hour or 2 and I was shaking so bad cause I got freaked out, it was my first time seeing a severe storm. Right now I'm in italy for a vacation and I'm in the mountains so if it thunders it will have a loud echo which I admire! Stay safe guys

Take the lightning VERY seriously Jared. Florida has the most people struck by lightning than any other State. You need to be inside away from Windows and doors. Weather is fascinatingly gorgeous, but serious. BTW, do you have a "STORM ESSENTIALS BACKPACK" packed to grab and go, if necessary should you have to vacate? Check into that...see what's recommended.

Lol. You guys are funny! When I used to live there it would rain one minute and sunny the next! Never had any damage from hurricanes either we were inland west of 441 in Hollywood! You guys would really freak out living here in alabama when we get severe weather we get tornadoes 🌪 hail, strong winds! I freak out every time! I get in the closet under the stairs going to the second story which is safer then the bathrooms! But never had one really that close to us maybe 5 miles or so away.

Hurricane season starts through June the 30th to the end of November I use to live in Texas and have been through a lot of hurricanes . The last one that houston had was hurricane Harvey that was a really bad one I have 2 kids and we were on the second floor of the apartment and the when and rain and thunder and lightning was so bad . and we were with out lights for 2 weeks .

Excellent question!! SOoo important to know in advance!! You cannot stay in your apt, above the trees, in a tornado. You must get to the lowest point, without windows. Take this stuff seriously...I live in "tornado alley."
