Batteries still have hydrogen floating around so if you do spark one just right they can't blow up but not to that extent. Unsure how a battery would explode underwater

Assuming for the sake of argument these are sealed cell liquid acid batteries, forcing the batteries to short out like that could theoretically fast electrolyze the water in the acid breaking it down into two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. Now being sealed and having liquid water turning into a gas this puts pressures on each cell of the battery increasing the temperature. Add in the increase of temperature from the electrical short circuit and you might have enough heat to cause the hydrogen/oxygen mix inside the batteries to spontaneously ignite in an explosive manner (I have seen the results of this and had to clean up the mess), how explosive all depends on how much of the water has electrolyzed, though I doubt the batteries would actually be able to generate enough explosive force to actually punch a hole in the hull, but you never know, weirder things have happened with batteries.

It's feasible if you're a trained diver and have lungs of steel. So far fetched but plausible.

In reality holding the breath most likely, because I imagine even if you aren’t a navy seal (they can hold their breath for like 5 minute intervals) I’d say u have at least 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds. With the explosion and electricity in the water and in that close of range they would all mostly get shocked. Also fun fact it is more likely u suffer more damage from an explosion under water than you would on land at the same distance.
