Twice, I have worked in the tunnel on the weekend blocks. An experience never to be forgotten. The noise of the engineering trains, road railers. When signing in at the SAC office, being given a numbered tag which had to be returned at the end of a 12 hour shift.

I wonder why good trains aren't allowed in the tunnel at the same time as passenger ones

Freight is allowed through the Tunnel at the same time as Passenger trains, it is Dangerous goods that are not allowed and this was an empty oil train.
