What was the reason 31466 needed a couple of extra locos to escort it? isnt it allowed out on its own?

2857 and hagley hall are ex mainline certified I know that for sure. Could be due to the fact the 20s were going that way for some reason or another? idk

well it cant have correct equipment fitted to go on the mainline i am guessing and if being pulled then you dont have 1 loco in case of failure. It costs a fortune in fines if you block a mainline due to failure nowadays , so 2 x 20s for insurance purposes

Any one else think 43106 was a HST Power Car before seeing the engine? :) Also 20s and 40s must have the same engine or at least some of the same systems as 40s whine just like 20s do when their idle....

But sometimes fire sparks from steam engines does catch on bushes, branches of trees, grass, brambles this time of the year in the summer

@@leonperry123 insurance i am guessing. you dont want to break down and block a mainline nowadays as it will cost you a fortune

I was actually thinking the same about the 20 and 40 apart from 20s are Choppers and 40s are Whistler's
