I have watched your videos# 1 and # 2, and it is now obvious that I need to prepare a toile first.I bought the calico today from my local shop. I have prepared the pattern pieces already, so I am now ready to start.I did not sew anything during our 2 year lockdown in the UK, so this feels like an adventure!Thank you very much for your quiet inspiration.

Hi Maria, cheers to getting back on the sewing bandwagon!!!!! Do make a toile for this one. I promise you it will make the sewing much faster too AND you will know it fits because as we all know there is nothing more disheartening that when you work so hard on cutting and sewing ... and you aren't happy with the fit. Check on that back pleat and make sure you don't have to make it a lot smaller.

Glad to hear it. It’s a great dress. I used a denim but I can see this in a really nice cotton lawn or even a viscose for a more flowy feel.

Thank you for showing me just how much work is required for this pattern. I had intended to make modifications to the bodice and did start planning it out, but this pattern is going on the donate pile as being much more than I want to tackle.

VIctoria, I can respect if you feel its more than you want to undertake. All I can say is that this pattern is not a quick sew. You have to split the project into a couple of days. Perhaps you may not what to undertake it on now, but maybe Maybe at some other time. I will say this... the pattern is worth the work. Even though its not lined it is beautifully finished inside.

@@MassonLifestyle: thank you. I had intended to use the full skirt version as the jumping off point for a designer coat I admire. The start was to be eliminating the back yoke and bodice gathers. Your wonderful tutorial has opened my eyes to my foolhardy enterprise. The pattern is NOT going to be sewn.

I’m posting part three tomorrow, I was able to get buttons today so I will do my best to get it finished and the video edited. It is truly a great pattern.

Hi Alex! I have finished the toile and have just completed the bodice plus sleeves.I have taken your advice about the gathers on the back. Because I have copied you in using stretch denim, I have eliminated the top pleat and reduced the gathers at the bottom.I have a short neck to waist measurement ( only 15 inches), so a bottom pleat looked wrong. I have put in a few a gathers instead, so thanks for the tip. I am about to start the skirt. As my pockets have a straight slant at the top, do you advise interfacing the top section of the pocket ?

depends on the thickness of your denim. I don’t believe the pattern calls for it you may not want it to be too stiff. I wouldn’t but again take into account the thickness of your denim. If its really light weight then do so, but if its stiffer perhaps you may not.
