I can't tell you how happy I am to find this today! I have been looking for *years* for a good garrison cap pattern - literally years. I found the patterns drawn out but no comprehensible instructions. This pattern and the video are *just* what I needed. Thank you so much!

I just made 2 of these out of (too) thick felt for my daughter's school theater class. I added some silver braid and now 2 flight attendants are ready for the show. Thanks from Germany!

I just printed out the pattern & the instructions online, love the format you used & the little graphic of Hattie stole my heart. Too cute!! Also Bernice (your hat mannequin) is very dapper and her eyeliner is stunning! Whoever sculpted her and did her doll makeup is a very talented artist. Hugs-Everyone have a Magical Day

Hi Gertie! Is there a reason that you don't use the extension piece to expand the size of the bed on your machine? I only take it off if I am sewing a sleeve or cuff, but I have seen multiple sewists who don't use it. Curious if there is a reason.
@GertiesWorld3 жыл бұрын
Hi! For some reason I just never got used to using it on this machine-it’s a bit awkward to take on and off. I’ve just found I prefer it this way on the Bernina, but my Juki has a more traditional extension and I always use that one!

I printed out the pattern and measured the test square and it's exactly 1/16th short. I double checked my printer settings and it's set to 100% with no other changes. Because this is a small project with small seam allowances, I'm wondering if this is something that I should try and fix? Or would it be okay? Did anyone else have this problem?
@GertiesWorld3 жыл бұрын
I agree on a small project like this you'll be fine sewing the pattern as is.

As I am a fighter-pilot-wannabe I'm in the process of creating my personal aviator style outfit. I didn't want to buy a surplus garrison cap to use for my outfit but I wanted to create something brand new that is just similar to the real original thing, not actually the real thing. This will help me TONS to achieve this =) thank you

Would this work just as well if instead of doing the lining understitching through6 layers at some points, if you just moved the understitching up above the seam that the band is in? If the band is tall enough it should hide that stitching as well, and the piping understotching should hold the band in place. Right? 🤔 Just would worry about putting that many thick layers together, esp if you hit piping overlap and break needle😬😬
