I am learning as much as I can from your awesome book! I purchased your book on-line a week ago & I am already making progress. Thanks again for sharing your expertise! Merci beaucoup!

Very nice instructions and video. Just an fyi, the pocket you are calling a coin pocket used to be called a watch pocket. That's when men carried pocket watches and they were working in their jeans. The watch chain attached to the closest belt loop.
@Thelaststitch4 жыл бұрын
Jeans have such a fascinating history, I love that aspect of doing this work. I've also heard it being called ticket pocket, for those small old train tickets that could fit into a pocket, but watch pocket must have been the original purpose with this pocket, right?
@lindabridges4454 жыл бұрын
@@Thelaststitch I think that was its original purpose. My grandfather worked as conductor on a railroad so the pocket was probably on a suit vest. Maybe on his slacks. My Dad worked on a ranch and the pocket was on his pants of some sort. I'm assuming they were jeans. I'm 74 so this was in 1920s to 40's in South Texas.

Wonderful directions Johanna, Thanks again. Did you say your books were in Australia yet? What is your jeans pattern please
@Thelaststitch4 жыл бұрын
Hi! My two first books Sewing Activewear and Master the Coverstitch Machines are available for book stores to carry in Australia via an Australian printer, and I get some sales from there each month, so some Aussie (on-line?) book shops must carry them. The jeans pattern I'm sewing right now (which is shown in the video) is one I have drafted myself 🙂

How do you sew (add additional) pockets onto the Jeans. Particularly side pockets.
@jay842333 жыл бұрын
Hi! Great step by step tutorial. Very easy to follow. BUT I think at 3.23 you turned the shield wrong on the lining. It covers the front & coin pocket after sewing the curved edge closed.

Ah, that could be because I'm doing a french seam and thus showing the reverse way of laying the pieces, hope it didn't was too confusing!

you know how jean pockets typically have that ripple effect in between the two sewed lines, how does one replicate this? in order to make it look less handmade and more like a factory/originally apart of the jeans

@@Thelaststitch what fabric do you use for the pocket bag?
@charlinegiroud98724 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the tutorial. I would suggest a modification of your pattern, sorry but it was an eye-opener for me.. I make the outer part (or curvy part) ~5mm wider than the inner part. When i baste everything together i do it in a way that the pocket is not laying flat (the outer part makes a bump, not sure that what i'm saying makes sens). In this way, when you wear your jeans there is no fold on the back pocket, I noticed that you didn't do it for your jeans. The advantage is also that it's easier to put your hands in your pockets ;-)
@Thelaststitch4 жыл бұрын
I think I get what you mean like an additional upwards curve before the side seam? For my upcoming jeans book I will have a few different versions, with a curve and also one that is more rectangular but maybe you are referring to another version? I'm intrigued 😊
@charlinegiroud98724 жыл бұрын
@@Thelaststitch it's not related to the shape of the pocket opening, still not sure how to explain it (haha, my lousy English). put the garment on a flat surface and the seam lines will match perfectly on the side. Put it on your waist and hips the side seams won't match because of the curvature of the body and the thickness of the fabric. For a nice result, they should match on a curvy body and not on a flat surface. The outer part (the opening) needs more ease than the inner part (shield). This is why the side seam is not straight when you wear your jeans and a fold is created on the pocket shield, in other words, your pattern doesn't take into account the curvature of the body. photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMWWhuQu3QRUyArxuMmnrAZJ2pauc7CpSBmopLT
