We don't understand it either, Nancy! 🤣😎😂All good things come to those who wait! We're just enjoying the journey and appreciate those who wish to share in it with us. Really, the channel has grown beyond what we had imagined since it was not a business for us but truly a "video log" of our travels so family and friends (and us) could see where we are going and what we are experiencing. It's fun to look back....but we must move forward! LOL. Appreciate your time watching the channel and glad you're along on the journey.

Folks, glad to see you hiked to the Harding Icefield. Hope your toe/foot feels better. We took my crew (8, 10, and 12) on this trail as well. We did many stops and rest along the way. Once we reached the top, we also had a nice lunch with the most amazing views. We found it much more difficult to go back down vs. going up. Our legs were so tired... but so worth it!

I loved this vlog. So much green and blue. Do you know what causes the tide and surfing at that river at the beginning of this vlog? It was spectacular. The otters during the cruise look like clowns and oh yes the view of the mountains in the clouds looks like mountains floating in melted marshmallows. Another great vlog thanks so much?😊❤
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Linda. The waves are created due to a combination of the depth of water in the bay and the tidal difference from low to high tides. In other words, the amount of water flowing back in and the speed with which the water flows out of the bay during the tidal change. You need extremes in this case such as a relatively shallow bay along with large tidal changes. Alaska is unique since this is the only place in the world where you get this phenomenon in a mountainous bay area creating a very visually appealing scene.

Hi, what time of the year did you go? Apologies if I missed it. Also, the 4000 ft elevation gain and 4.1 miles, that's what you tracked yourselves? Everywhere I look I see different stats. People are reporting on AllTrails that they have to go further than the AllTrails route to get up to the actual icefield. I SO want to do this hike, but it will definitely be pushing my limits. Good job, both of you and excellent videography and photography!!
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels 3 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. We went August 24th. The stats are what we tracked but it matches closely with what the NP signage states as well. The mileage to the summit varies a little based on the different routes and when your stop... there's not an actual summit sign post so it's left to a little bit of personal interpretation.

I live in Dillingham, AK which is part of Bristol Bay. Yes Salmon is a large part of my diet. We are able to put out our subsistence net. This year I was able to caught 355 pounds. This makes it affordable to live out here.

Hey David & Sondra, we injoy your Alaska videos. Making our trip in spring of 2025. Planing on spending the summer up there. Couple questions, what brand of drone do you use. And what are some must does while we spend the summer. Was the trip to Prudhoe Bay worth the drive? We also plan on doing a lot of boondocking, thank you and safe travels

You'll enjoy Alaska. I fly a DJI Mini2 (Costco special). Depends on what you like to do. Prudhoe bay for us was worth it because we love the scenery above the Arctic Circle (drive between Coldfoot and Prudhoe Bay is epic}. We took it real slow on the roads though. We plan on doing a trip summary later on after we're done. We really enjoyed the drive on the Denali Highway too. The LuluBelle in Valdez is a very cool cruise/tour but a glacier landing out of Talkeetna on a clear day is also epic. I think focus on what you enjoy and plan for that. LOL...it's really hard to do a "don't miss" list. Denali National Park is very cool too.

Okay, I’ll ask. What is the deal with the Whataburger cups? Did you guys own a Whataburger franchise and you have lots of left over cups? I’m sure you’ve explained it but I’m new here. Thanks.
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels Жыл бұрын
Great question, Scott. We did not own a franchise nor are we sponsored by Whataburger. We used to live in Texas and I really like the food. Sondra tolerates it, she does like the chicken and the Patty Melt. She really enjoys Diet Coke out of a foam cup. So, once in a Whataburger about 7 years ago, we asked the manager if we could purchase some cups. He gave them to us but asked that we send him pics of a Whataburger cup in front of some notable places we've visited. He shares it with the staff and they get a kick out of seeing the cup by Crater Lake National Park or Yellowstone or Rocky Mtn National Park, etc... We've sent him 100's of pics. Pretty funny.

I’m not saying that I couldn’t sleep at night, but this has been a burning question for me. I live in Oklahoma so I’m very familiar with Whataburger and I do enjoy a double with cheese every now and then. Their burgers have an excellent flavor! That’s a very cool story. Thanks for solving the mystery for me.😁
