I decided to start a drain cleaning company, I have been a plumber since 97 but I feel concentrating on drain cleaning is a better cost to benefit ratio. I am not rich, my equipment is really a hodgepodge of what I could find in my price range and cobble back together, a Gorlitz knock off with 3/4 cable for out door mainline, a cobra upright with 5/8 cable for indoor mainline either through a clean out or flange, an old modified harbor freight machine with 1/2 cable , a general mini rooter jr I think it is with 3/8 cable, a rigid snorkeled 1/4 inch machine and a 6’ closet auger. I am running out of a small box trailer that was found rotting away in some bushes on the neighbors property. All in all I’m probably in $2000 in cost so far. I rent a camera when needed for now, I used to have the ability to rent a jetter but it was rented out and got burned up in a fire and the rental place is not sure they are going to replace it so I may have to get my own. I plan to upgrade equipment as I can afford to

I’ve always seen it like this, drain cleaning other than the start out machine costs, the costs are not much at all, you get some extra wax wings, johnny bolts, some fit all plugs and extra clean out plugs and p traps with no hubs and stuff. I mean yeah occasionally you may need extra cables and stuff. It sounds like you have a good set up from what you told me, when you are starting out you don’t need to have the most expensive stuff, just effective enough to get some jobs done so you can upgrade in the future. I didn’t want to snake sewers until I had my camera because when I include the inspection it adds value to my service. It’s a marathon, not a race you will be able to upgrade with time. I would also invest in the camera first but that’s just my opinion.

What are the dos and donts for cleaning out drains with the machines? I mean are there some pipes that can be ruined with certain machines?

Nice video. Thanks for sharing your setup. I built my own jetter to save money. Sourced used parts at first to get going. I offer free camera inspection on mainlines unless the call is just for a camera. I open the clog fast with the jetter or flexshaft, put the camera down, when the customer sees the state of the drain ( roots, scale, etc) they always want it cleaned completely. A jetter will definitely change the game for you. Look up a company called Direct Hit. Jim Paris, the owner has designed several nozzles that are amazing for clearing and cleaning roots. He will build them custom for whatever machine you have. Good luck and hope to see more videos of you and your business growing and doing well. 💪😎👊

Thanks for sharing! Right now I use the root ranger nozzle and I love it! I use the same process I always put the camera in after a main line clearing. Customer can see the condition and I’ll upsell accordingly if it’s tree roots I upsell flexshaft/jet cleaning. Definitely going to look up Direct Hit

I strongly recommend an air snake as well. And a urinal auger
@anthonyfiorenzo5698 ай бұрын
Urinal auger I have now. Air snake I’m still weighing pros of cons, could be trouble if attempted on back to back fixtures. But if you know when and when not to use it then no issues right
@martinlowpezart65978 ай бұрын
@@anthonyfiorenzo569 yeah definitely wouldn’t work on back to back to back fixtures. I don’t use it all the time but when I do need it I’m super glad I have it. It’s saved my butt several times.

What do you think about cobra speedway rodding machine brand as a startup for sewer main line up to 6"?
@anthonyfiorenzo5698 ай бұрын
Cobra I do not have experience with so I cannot give detailed reviews on. Sectionals I love are electric eel and the ridgid k 60. I definitely recommend looking on amazing machinery I have had many things from them and never a bad experience. Home Depot also tends to sell some of their drum machine rentals as well

Nice… you can build a jetter with a good pressure washer
@anthonyfiorenzo5692 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only downside is it doesn’t always have the flow rate needed. I did find one that was 5gpm that I’m looking to buy
@themayorbnb2 жыл бұрын
Just starting out myself with a 4400 psi 4gpm washer. Hey as long as it gets the line flowing that's what the client needs right? May not do a 6 inch line but can at least get something done.
@213jerez Жыл бұрын
Whats a good pressure washer ?
@Daland21648 Жыл бұрын
@@213jerez something a high GPM. To be honest if it’s not over 4-5gpm a waste of time. Better using a water hose with a high pressure nozzle on it. it’s all about the GPM
