Wow. The dress and construction was gorgeous! It motivates me to want to learn how to make and tailor my own clothes. Everything mainstream is so cheaply constructed or quickly made. I’m thinking maybe of taking a sewing class this year!
@HaleyMarieVintage
@HaleyMarieVintage Жыл бұрын
Yes take a class, I taught myself at home but really wish I had done some classes first! And also know it takes a long time and a lot of practice to get good so don't get discouraged, I actually have my first dress I ever made on here if you ever need encouragement of where I started from, knowing where I am at 3 years later.

@@HaleyMarieVintage That’s awesome! Thank you! I will totally check that out. My Mom taught me some basics when I was little, but I still don’t know how to thread a bobbin or what to do when the machine jams up etc. I also find that my proportions can be hard to fit, so it would be nice to do my own tailoring. I hope your channel does well! I just came across it recently and I think your content is great.

AHHHH Haley! Put the zips in upside down and at the side! I also have to deal with chronic pain, I did this once by accident and it forever changed my ways. It's way easier to pull down than pulling up to get it off and isn't nearly as hard as doing it to get it on!! I don't do this with back zips... cuz I dont use those. They are too difficult for me to get on and I'm not about to temporarily paralyze my arm while trying to get a dress on... again. Also, love how the dress came out! the waist came out great
@HaleyMarieVintage

Thank you! And it is so funny how different people's mobility is, if I have a side zip, zipping it make my arm go numb but in the back it is totally fine lol

So I saw you in Stephanie Canada's video and I adored this dress so much I had to come looking for it. Gorgeous! And as someone who has in the past tried to sell my sewing, THANK YOU for the labor cost breakdown. I wish more creators talked about that because people vastly underestimate the value of clothing. So thank you, I think it's a genuinely Good thing you are doing. You definitely have a subscriber here and I'm excited to dig through all your projects for more inspo because you seem to really have similar taste to me.

you did great. it looks fabulous. also on forgetting how you finished things, I was having this conversation with a friend a little wile ago. different topic but same thing. I think it's a short term/long term memory thing. when you do something a lot I think your brain puts it into short or mid0 term memory instead of long term memory. especially if you listen to an audiobook or something at the same time. so the book goes into long term memory but the seam finishings don't.
@HaleyMarieVintage
@HaleyMarieVintage Жыл бұрын
That makes total sense, plus seam finishings have become routine/second nature so it would also live in short term memory

Anyone that wants to make this, Folkwear Patterns has basically the same dress. It’s called the “123 Austrian Dirndl”. That’s basically what this is, a dirndl. I bought the pdf from them (haven’t used it yet) but I think they offer printed as well, don’t quote me though! That aside this came out great and is making me want to finally get to work on my own version!

I’m still in the middle of watching this but I’m definitely loving it so far!! Plus the dress looked so cute on the pattern envelope so I can’t wait to see the finished product! I do ASMR and vlog-ish style videos on my channel and I’ve already done 2 sewing videos for fun but I’m thinking of adding sewing content to my channel too, you’ve inspired me to do that! I haven’t sewn a garment since November because I had a Breast Reduction in February and I lost weight so my measurements have changed but now that I’m healed up after surgery I’m going to start sewing again ☺️💕

This dress turned out so adorable!! Think you’ve convinced me to try a gathered skirt again, usually I stick to circular or panelled skirts cos I’ve got a big waist to hip difference and gathered skirts can kind of emphasise that I’m not the cutest way sometimes? but having it not gathered at the front is super flattering and I think I’m going to give them another try and not write them off all together 😂

In your price breakdown at the end, you do not account for economies of scale by the companies that make dresses. It is comparing apples to oranges. I do agree that the workers are not being paid a living wage. The profits are going to the owners. You might find it useful to go back through all of your price breakdowns, add up the differences between retail prices and your costs and see how they compare over time as an average. Also, I have read that cats like to drink running water (dripping faucets) rather than from a bowl. If so, the cat might drink more water which would be better.
@sewcute_sewvintage
@sewcute_sewvintage Жыл бұрын
I would say it's priced more for someone selling their items themselves than the mark up of a retail store. But it still gives a really good idea of how cheap things actually are
@HaleyMarieVintage
@HaleyMarieVintage Жыл бұрын
Totally agree that the economies of scale are not the same, I still think it is important in the era of cheap clothing and social media distorting how much work it takes to make a garment to talk transparently about time and cost it takes me to make a garment. Also Spooky prefers still water I got her a fountain and she wouldn't drink from it!
