Come make a baby blanket with me! If you didn't see yesterday's video, I already have my pieces measured and cut to size so I could have the name embroidered and ready to go. These fabric pieces are 27 inches x 35 inches giving me a 26x34 inch blanket when we're all done.
This video is longer than my usual videos because there are NO TIME LAPSES and NO EDITS! So grab your fabric pieces, a cup of coffee, and let's sew together!
If you don't want to watch the whole video, I totally understand! Here are some time stamps if you want to jump ahead :)
Start Pinning 2:12
2nd Row of Pins 9:52
1st Stitch Around 14:12
How to Close the Opening 26:37
Top Stitch 32:00
Final Product 41:00

Love your Video, it got me to finish a blanket for my great-grandchild coming soon. Just one thing I do differently. I have a big issue with slipping fabric. Bad eyesight doesn't help. So I pin my flannel fabric down on Minky with an inch of Minky fabric showing all the way around. No edges to line up and slip. After sewing cut the Minky excess off with pinkie shears. Fewer pins can be used, and both perpendicular and horizontal pinning can be used. This method is how it's done in commercial factories, on fabric that's like the Minky. It removes the slipped edge. A friend shared this with me. Game Changer for me.

Hello again! Well, I DID IT! I finished it. You know, I actually started over again, this time, carefully measuring all sides, pinning it down (doubling) and some in the middle of the blanket.... It was great to feel that feeling, I finished. I also want to tell you, I watched your video about 6 times.... But I did it. Thank you for the great video. If your table is less than 48 inches wide, Hubby can buy a furniture grade piece of 4x8 plywood to attach on top. Simply sand to super smooth, stain and poly and you have a bigger top.

I had my husband make me a 4’X8’ table from plywood and covered it with felt, for my garage. It has been such a God send. Especially since I do a ton of quilts. The only problem is, it is so dang hot here in TX, that summer months it is miserable to work out there. I would have loved a 4’X16’ table but I can add the edition later on. It costs us about $100.00 with all the lumber he had to buy. One thought I did have was to make just the table top in the dimensions and set it on my dining room table. I haven’t had that conversation with him yet. Lol.

In a pinch (and for cheap) you can do this to temporarily make your table longer and wider: Lay two of the big heavy duty sheets of cardboard they sell in Walmart and Lowes (for you to fold up and make into packing boxes) on your table. Use duck tape ( on both sides) to close the slits they put in the cardboard and to connect the two cardboards. Voila, a longer and wider temporary table topper. After using, you can fold and store it, then bring it out again when needed.

As much as I love my table and my husband's thought behind it, it's not very big for cutting. I often have to go to my dining table to cut bigger pieces. The exact top measurements are 24x52 (inches). My husband is going to build me extensions to it that I can fold up and give me more space. If you can go for something bigger, I'd suggest doing so. But I love that I can adjust the height! Helps me be able to stand and not bend my back so much.

I'm going to a dance comp tomorrow - there is one near there with 5 yards, and several closer to me with 3 and 4 yards - happy to pick up for you if you would like! May not be able to ship until Monday though. Let me know - I can order now.

What type of stitch are you using?

Most often I use just a regular straight stitch. Occasionally I'll decorate the top with a zig zag stitch or something else fun :)

Hi Heather! I no longer have the machine in this video. I know it was a Brother though. It was one that my husband got me about 6 years ago. I just recently got a Brother CP60X on clearance from Joanns!

Totally understand! Sorry about that. This video was filmed 3 years ago. There's a lot of things I would do differently now!

I know you warned us no Edison time-lapse but to sit thru the pinning was ridiculous. Even a beginner would get it after 2 sides pinned.ill catch on jennie

It's a cute patterned blanket but it's not made correctly. All material should be pre-washed. If you are not using batting or a filling, you need to put some kind of stitching on the blanket to keep it together in the center. I'm not impressed with your comments about saying you were too lazy to take out a crease, or you do what you feel like doing. That's not being professional.

Hi Katie! This video is about 3 years old. I've certainly changed how I do things since then. I still don't wash my fabric before I sew as you never know someone's allergies or skin sensitivities (it also makes it not brand new anymore), but I absolutely iron my fabric now for more accurate measurements. Some of these older videos make me laugh at myself! 😂 Thanks for your comment!
