This video is the penultimate video in my medieval kirtle series as well as an addition to my “Rose Garden” series celebrating women from history. Christine was a medieval poet who is famous for writing about the lives of women, and sticking up for women’s rights. During the entire time that I created this kirtle pattern, with all the different elements of medieval costuming, I had the life of Christine de Pizan in mind. Thank you for sharing Christine de Pizan. I see absolutely nothing wrong with cos playing a literary bad ass of a human. A woman who was a contemporary of Joan of Arc wrote about her successes during the life of 'Joan, formerly known as Saint'. Before the Leonard Cohen song takes up the story. That is strangely wonderful. Thank you. The ensemble is beautiful. As for life in the Red Zone of Ottawa? It's quiet (except for the ringing in my ear). People are actually making eye contact and saying 'hello' out loud when we pass each other in the street. And there's going to be a whole bunch of investigation as to how we got into this mess in the first place. Right now the fencing around Wellington feels like a security blanket (if it comes down will the bad men come back...). Given the level of hate crimes in the past month - pray for the best and brace. In the meantime, one capital city brat to the city of Kiev - I stand in awe. You might imagine that, as I really like your content, our values are at least in the same general direction. Conversations around justice and consent are very common in my household. Now that my kids are growing up (27, 18, & 15) I’m able to have more challenging conversations than before.

Ooooooh I wish we'd been taught about her in school. Medieval literature doesn't really get covered in general, honestly, the earliest author I can think of that we studied is Rabelais. Anyway the kirtle looks great! What's the inspiration behind doing the block prints in two different colours, if you don't mind saying?

It was roughly inspired by heraldic dress that is depicted during this time, but with no actual symbols from heraldry. The colour-split is something that happened a lot in those illustrations. Plus, I couldn't decide between the silver and gold paint!

Ooh, is that a brighter shade of red? I'm most familiar with you in the darker henna-y red that approaches mahogany in your usual video lighting but that more vibrant shade is also lovely, especially with the greens in your tattoo sleeve. The kirtle and inspiration is great too, but the hair particularly caught my eye

I wish this had been two separate videos. I have great interest in both topics, but cant follow either in this format and it's intensely aggitating. Please continue to do the lecture style videos, they are needed and enjoyed. but if they can be separate from the making videos, it might help more people like me (ADHD, mentally divergent, etc.)
