I found this excellent demo and pattern years ago and, of course, the plackets turned out perfectly. Even though I was very happy with that result and it was very clearly stated her to use this combination from now on, I attempted to use those from a commercial pattern again - out of curiosity. Needless to say, I'm back here today. I won't wast my time like that again. Thanks a million, this demo has been helpful many times over.

I have made sleeve plackets for several (at least 4) shirts following this tutorial. I review it every time (though not in as much detail as the first time) because I know that if I just trust my memory I will be getting out the seam ripper. I particularly like the part in ironing down the edges where you say, "Don't burn your fingers! Use a tweezer." It really makes me feel that you are looking out for me.

I need some direction re: positioning of the fabric. Initially, you cut two pieces of fabric, with right sides together. Then, before cutting the slit, you tell the viewer to reposition the fabric with wrong sides facing up. Why the change? Also, I'm using an American sleeve pattern. The curvature at the end of your sleeve, is located at the shoulder of my shirt pattern, making it difficult to properly place the placket at the end of the sleeve. You make it look so easy. Thank you for an excellent video. The only slight change I made was to sew the seams up, across and down, before cutting the slash. This way, I thought, the fabric would be more stable.

How do you get these camera angles? Do you have your camera between your eyes and the ironing board? ... or is it over your shoulder, focused on your hands?

Hi Stacey, I move it about from one side to the other. But yes, over the shoulder and may be I sit a bit to the side so I can get the best angle.

I have a single piece sleeve. how do I know where to place this template? there is a slash line on the pattern piece.

The slit is always towards the back or away from the front. Depending on the sewing pattern you're using there are notches on the armhole and the sleeve to indicate where it's facing but as a general rule of thumb the slit always faces the back. PS. Just saw that this comment was written four years ago but this might help someone else out in the future?

Cut after you've sewn around the marked vent line that will be cut, then and only then would I cut. The fabric will move less and it makes no difference to the end result. But this is a great tutorial otherwise. So my advice, don't cut until you've sewn the border around the cut line.
