can we use flat dacron (kind of like quilt batting) for that wool strip? I was thought to sew gathers around the sleeve head before attaching the sleeve to the body. then sew a flat dacron that already shaped like the sleeve head, they called it Padding Ring, but it just added that bump around the sleeve head.. The gathers helped, but it's really hard to set the ease.. So far your way is the easiest I've seen and it's always perfect.. I tried sewing the Padding Ring first before attaching the sleeve, but because it's already shaped like the sleeve head, it didn't help with the ease at all...

Super video, thank you! I am just wondering if one could use bias tape instead of a wool cut on bias? My question is because of a thickness factor with different fabrics. Again thank you for a super way of inserting a sleeve.
@DianeDezieltoolfully6 жыл бұрын
Hello Laura, yes you could use tape bias, but in a tailor sleeve you want the thickness to fill the little bump. Diane

@DianeDezieltoolfully7 жыл бұрын
They all seam to be knit fabric and made from a fitted T-shirt block (I offer it on my site toolfully.com) for the assembling it's 1st shoulder, 2nd sleeve flat, 3rd underarm and side seam, you could also look at my video on how to assemble a t-shirt

Thank you for the video, I have a question? if you are using a lighter material and gathering a sleeve for a shirt, can you use knit stripe to ease the sleeve in.
@DianeDezieltoolfully8 жыл бұрын
For gathers, you might use a mobilon (clear) elastic that you cut exactly the measure you have on the garment notch to notch
@Manotz7 жыл бұрын
Diane Deziel what do u mean by "ease the sleeve in"??? can u plz tell me. i m trying to learn professional stitching from these tutorials n not familiar with the terms. the only "ease" i know abt is the one we add to the fitting measurements
@marysinclair19177 жыл бұрын
Hi Diane, I have just heard you say that the notches should lie 10cm below centre of the crown. I forgot to insert the notches when making and cutting my pattern and muslin so I have been searching for this as I cannot tell if I have put my sleeves in back to front and in the wrong armholes. my sleeves are laying towards the back of the garment Should I swap them around?
@DianeDezieltoolfully7 жыл бұрын
Those notches 10 cm each side of the shoulder notch are only a reference to do the ease, the other ones single/front & double/back are the most important. If your sleeves are hanging towards the back you should definitely swap them.
@marysinclair19177 жыл бұрын
Thanks Diane for your prompt reply.

My favorite is a soft touch, thick wool but an heavy fleece work pretty good too, it's even easier since it's stretchier. it's not the traditional thing for tailoring but no-one will know and it's so much easier.
