I learned how to sew a tool roll because I bought too many sewing notions and accessories. Picked up some duck canvas, found my favorite Pokemon Jigglypuff on some fabric at Joann, and turned out my second beginner sewing project. Sewing on a Singer 4432.
Videos mentioned:

Please say hello in the comments and let me know if you have anything you're working on. I want to build a community and make some online friends while I'm here. :)

When you have two different weights/thickness' of fabric like that, it is best practice to pin through the layers, For example, on your little test square, pin in the centre, then close enough to each edge but allowing the machine foot plenty of room to pass by. This will prevent puckering and slippage. Also, good practice to start sewing with a couple of stitches forward, then reverse stitch a couple of stitches then continue forward. When you reach the end of your sewing, reverse sew a couple of stitches again. It prevents the stitches coming loose with use or moving it around while creating. To ensure your stitches/seams meet, keep the edge of the fabric at the same distance from the foot. There is a tool, a strong magnet that sits on your machine next to your foot on the right of it, that will keep the edge of the fabric at the same even space from the sewn stitches, which will help your corners meet neatly. 1 big serious tip using rotary cutters...ALWAYS cut away from you not towards you. So glad you found the Zen. Again, with rolling the width of the roll, use pins to hold the fabrics in place so they don't move placing the pins top to bottom through all layers, between all lines, then roll the item after sewing each line as tightly as you can. With practice you will get used to doing this so that you feel comfortable with. You can lay your scissors on top of the roll. It adds a bit of weight to prevent the fabric unrolling while you sew. Adjust the roll after each line of sewing. CONGRATULATIONS. It looks good, does what it's supposed to do and who cares if it looks a liitle scrappy on the ties. Personally, I would put the scissors in the pocket upside down and the rotary cutter upside down to the way you have them. Less movement and fallout. Great job for your first large item. This is the first time I have watched your channel. I have taught how to sew for years as well as created my own designs. I hope you don't mind my comments. Purely to help you and save you from injuring yourself. lol. See you next time. Fun.

I don’t mind the comments at all, thank you so much! Not many folks in my life sew - and my mom used to but has greatly slowed down as she’s gotten older - so I missed the window to pick up the teachings from her. Going to review your tips before I start the next project. Again, thank you so much! I love the shared wisdom I’ve gotten from the sewing community so far. 😊

@@CodyLearnsThings the saying 'it take a community to rear a child' goes just the same for other times in our lives. So it 'takes a community of sewers to teach Cody to sew'.

If you get a frixion pen it will erase when ironed. You will allways have to fold your fabric, but ironiing will smoothie it back out. 🥳

Greate job! Your best friend in sewing is ironing. It's super boring but pressing seams makes all the diffrence! You also erase the bunching from fitting it in the machine that way. But to not destroy your fabric, first iron a test piece starting with a low temp to see how much it can take.

You can always applique something over your scortch marks. Or, embroider something there if you decide you want to hide them. 🤔
