My nanny taught me to sew on her 500 a. I made all my clothes in high school and was voted best dressed. Have now made american girl wedding dresses and nighties for my granddaughters dolls. Still making memories on my grandmothers 500 a.

I just stumbled on this video. I have the exact same 500 A Slantomatic Rocketeer, just passed down from Mom. I love this machine, it is a workhorse and does so many decorative stitches. My hubby found top hat cams at the thrift store so I have all but #17! I use different patterns for top stitching. Thanks for the cleaning and oiling advice. I just had it serviced and cleaned also by a really old school sewing machine guy. I wouldn't trade my Rocketeer for all the new computerized ones!

Hi there! Aren't they just the best machines though? I have an extra cam - I just looked, but it's not the one you are missing :( Maybe you can find it on eBay? Good luck! I use mine for topstitching too. I'm thinking of starting some small quilting projects and using the decorative stitches there too. Every once in a while my eye wanders towards the shiny new machines...until I remember they are all plastic and not as powerful as these machines are. I love that you have your mom's machine! What a lovely memory! Just FYI - my channel is not abandoned. I just work a full-time job teaching at two local colleges, so my upload schedule is all over the place. More is coming soon! I have lots of footage shot - I just need to find time to edit it all down :) Thank you for the watch and for the comment! Have a great day!

@1953childstar thank you! I didn't even think to check if it was one of the built-in ones!

@@sherrimakesstuff3112 Nobody does, and that is why they sell for $18.00 + on eBay. As far as a "decorative stitch" goes, it is a "matter of taste", but years ago "the Singer store personnel" told me it was a "stretch blind hem" stitch.. That is sort of debatable, but...

hello I see it has 2 spool pins must be for twin neddle sewing? Please kindly film how to thread the sewing machine please ok? Thank you very much
@sherrimakesstuff31125 жыл бұрын
Yes it is for twin needle sewing - good catch! It occurred to me after I finished the video that I didn't cover that function. I have a few videos planned before that, but I'll definitely do one on twin needle sewing in the near future. The manual wasn't very helpful and I had to figure it out on my own, so I think you're right - a video would be helpful. Thanks for the great suggestions!
