Can you please show a video of reassembly of a tension dial that was screwed too far & came off...trying to reassemble the wire in back has moved to the far right position ....how do you get it back to the left side??? This was on a vintage machine.

I inherited a White 571 and found a simple operating manual on the Singer website. Now that was lucky! Unless I hold the threads, I end up with an extra 3-4" length or tail of bobbin thread that comes out at the end AFTER I remove the fabric. In order to be even able to remove the fabric, I have to release/cut the needle thread and then pull the bobbin thread(s) attached to the cloth to the side. If I hold the threads behind, this doesn't happen. Any thoughts?

sorry my mistake. I pull the thread away from the needle and cut it which allows me to remove the fabric leaving me a tail of NEEDLE thread.

The stitch should be completed when your take up lever is in the highest position. So if you stop sewing with it in any other position it may have already started to create another stitch which will make it difficult to remove your material. i would recommend turning the handwheel towards you until you feel the thread release and then pull your material out. - I hope that makes sense but let me know if it doesn't :)

Thanks. I removed the cover plate and saw that when there was a "catch", indeed a loop of top thread was inside the shuttle hook so your description makes perfect sense. I was mystified as I kept watching videos where people finished sewing, lift foot and needle and simply yank left and away they go without muss or fuss.
