Here I demonstrate how to sew on Boy Scout Merit Badges to a Boy Scout Sash. You can also do this by hand, if you have the patience and no machine.

A Girl Scout leader showed me to sew the badges on with transparent thread on top and in bobbin so it doesn't show on any of the badges. It's a game changer!

I am an experienced sewist sewing on badges for the last 18 years through 3 kids in scouts, plus I was a Girl Scout leader and did the sewing for the Cub Scout leader. Boy Scout badges are the easiest because the edge stitching is only two colors. I use a dark green color for the bobbin thread and a matching embroidery thread for the top, only need two colors, the silver and the pale green. I do a zigzag stitch on top of the edge stitching. Very secure and hard to see. I hate badge magic because it's permanent and very hard to repair when someone else got to the badges before I did. If I need to baste them on, I use a huge stitch, like 5.0 mm long to hold the badges in place until I get them well sewn on. That basting stitch is very easy to sew and very easy to take out when I'm done. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make the video. Meanwhile, back to my dressmaking, quilting, and machine embroidery.

I use clear filament on top and green thread in the bobbin. I also use clear filament on all patches on the shirts. Looks neater and you don't have to switch colors.

This is a great instructional video. The best way is to have your Boy Scout watch the video and learn to do it himself! ;-)

just remember if you use hot glue or badge magic to put patches on.. it will leave a mess on the uniform under the patch. So if you have a patch that needs to be removed or the placement changes you will have a mess on your uniform. Examples are: if you stop being a part of a unit and just serve on the District or Council, when youth cross from scout to Asst. Scoutmaster and other positions.

They’ve had a sticker-like product for a while now called “Badge Magic” that eliminates the need of these more time consuming methods. They sell them at my local scout shop.

About how long did that take you? Curious...

Great idea to glue the patches down, but you should have started them 2 1/2 inches from the top, Scout regulation.
@kristinkalk14564 жыл бұрын
@@elainemarty6500 Actually, regulation is 1/2 inch.

I have authored three books containing merit badge requirements. These books will assist the scout and merit badge counselor to achieve the desired merit badge. The books can be obtained on amazon or at the local library. They are WEATHER by Jack Fleming, GEOLOGY by Jack Fleming, and BEACHES (for the Oceanography badge) by Jack Fleming.
