I am a very experienced sew-er, but I don't understand how to line up/sew the top zipper into the side seams (that's where I am in the pattern right now). The video helped more than the written directions... I'm ready to give it a try. I added 3 credit card holders/pockets into the back lining piece so the cards don't float around in the bag or fall out. I'm making 3 of these bags with Harry Potter fabric for my kids who are visiting Universal Studios in Florida. Note: definitely use the SF woven interfacing she recommends - amazing results! Walmart sells it by the yard or pre-packaged.
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
Sewing and lining up the top zipper can be a little tricky. What I do is just line up the fabric seams along the zipper (the zipper seam that was topstitched) and clip or pin that spot so it stays in place till you sew it closed. Also, that’s a great idea adding card slots! ❤️

Hi there! I just purchased the pattern, and can't wait to make these!! Question....I like to use zipper tape over already made zippers. What length of zipper tape should I measure out?
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
I haven’t made one using zipper tape yet, but I believe if you cut both zippers to be as long as the width of the rest of the pattern pieces then it should work out just fine without any wasted zipper tape.

Amazon has them. The craftmemore hardware was a very good quality - I just purchased and used them. 3/4 inch is plenty big enough, I don't like the look of the 1 inch hardware - too big for this bag. 1/2 inch is great, too.

I downloaded your pattern and made 2 bags right away! These are addictive! I am having a bit of an issue getting the open end of the zipper to turn out and lay nicely like yours. Any tips would be welcomed.
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
Here’s a few things I make a mental note of doing to make sure my zippers lay nicely. Make sure the exterior top seams are aligned and secured together before sewing so they don’t shift around (video time 37:00 for a visual) Make sure to trim down the seam allowance, especially around the zipper, to remove the bulk in that seam. But don’t trim it too close to the seam or it can pull through your stitches And then make sure to push out the corners at the top zipper before sewing the opening in the lining shut (video time 45:15). Sometimes I have to push up on the zippers a tad more forceful than others for whatever reason, but also still gentle so I don’t bust the zipper through the seam 😄
@lindapayne94742 жыл бұрын
@@AngieKT327 I will try your suggestions. Bags 3 and 4 cut out and interfaced. I think these will be part of Christmas for granddaughters. Great granddaughters, too maybe.

Do you use an iron on interfacing in you strap
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
Yes, all the interfacing used is fusible
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I was thinking this comment was on a different bag. Brain stopped working for a second 🙃 On the crossbody strap on this one I don’t use interfacing just to cut down on the bulk, but you totally can interface them for extra stability. And if I did want to interface the strap I personally would probably just go with a thin woven interfacing, same as the rest of the bag.

Beautiful thank you for the instructions for this bag. About how long does this take to make this bag?
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
It’s been a while since I timed it, but I think it was around an hour and half maybe. But it can vary depending on a lot of factors, so you might me able to get done quicker than me, or it might take a bit longer.

I been making these bags for family and friends but I been seeing videos about fraying. Should I worry about fraying on this bag? I'm new to sewing so I don't know a whole lot yet
@AngieKT327 Жыл бұрын
Fraying usually comes into play when a bag isn’t lined the raw edges of the exterior fabric are visible on the inside of the bag. And then as you use the bag the raw edge starts fraying because cotton fabric is woven and it basically starts unraveling. Since this bag doesn’t have any visible raw edges you don’t have to worry about fraying. There might be a little bit of fraying taking place, but you’ll never see it since it’s hidden between the exterior and the lining fabrics and your seam will stop it from fraying any further 🙂
@robertwolverton7393 Жыл бұрын
@@AngieKT327 thank you so much for getting back with me. That makes me feel more comfortable about the bags not fraying. Your videos been alot of help to me

I've made two of these so far...and have enjoyed them. My only problem I keep having is the top zipper! Once finished & turned, they don't look so nice. What's the secret? Thinking there must be a fix. Otherwise, I'm in love with it. Got any ideas?
@gardengirl6942 жыл бұрын
I made one of each. One I used the heavier stabilizer and I didn’t like it bc it was too bulky and didn’t look as good. Then. I used a very lightweight stabilizer and didn’t use it at all on the lining. I loved the way that came out. It turned easier too.
@AngieKT3272 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad to hear you like the pattern! Without being able to see the zipper issue you’re experiencing, here are a few possibilities of what might be causing problems. The ends of the zipper in the seam allowance may need trimmed down a tad more before turning. But I wouldn’t trim the seam allowance down any more than to 1/8” or 1/4” so the zipper doesn’t fray when you turn it. Or (page 26, step 19 of the pattern) be sure to push outward on the zipper from the wrong side of the fabric (hand through the turning hole) to help poke out the zipper corner. My last thought is that maybe the fabric/zipper is shifting while you’re sewing the bag up? If you think that might be the problem, try adding a few more clips around the zipper, or throw a few extra pins in for additional hold. Or you could also try using a walking foot if clips aren’t stopping the shifting. But also feel free to message me on Etsy with pictures if these tips don’t work, or you think it’s something else! We’ll get this figured it! ❤️

What happens if your needle hits the zipper when you're going over it??
@AngieKT327 Жыл бұрын
It’s not a problem when you’re using nylon zippers. Your needle just goes right in between the zipper teeth. 😄 If you’re making this and using metal zipper teeth though, then you’d want to make sure to leave the zipper out of your seam allowance.
