And in all fairness to Jordan, your list is pretty huge too. I enjoy your step by step discussions on sailing, engine repair, navigating editing..... I'm mostly a Stink Potter (Slang for power boater) but I had to bend myself into a pretzel on more then one occasion to clean out an impeller, clear intakes, change a fuel line bla bla bla. Power boats come with their own set of problems but sailing truly is a labor of love! Hats off dude.........

You do excellent work, Desiree. I've always wanted to learn how to use a sewing machine. When I was the rigger at Gulf Star Yachts, the upholstery shop was located next to the rigging loft next to me. It was always interesting to me how they made all the cushions, sail covers, etc. They used Viking machines. Well-done, Des.

Jordan, I encourage you to research leaving the doc using a bow spring, backing out. In my mind it provides much more control, both leaving and comming to the dock.Trick is to use a long spring attached at the bow that goes to the dock at the middle point of the boat or further back. Then lots of fenders all the way forward to take the impact. If you double the spring your bow-woman can cast off when you are ready to put the engine in reverse. This methods enables you to exit the tightest spots on solid on shore wind. Give a some tries in light weather to learn the "ropes". If you want a video, google "Springing off using a Bow Spring ". Greetings from SY Sailing Iris.

Nice handiwork on your bow awning! Do they make a thread that is UV resistant yet? You should sew up "stack packs" for the mainsail and the mizzensail! Are you still gonna use the original awning for the cockpit behind the dodger? I really enjoyed hearing all those ladies tell us what their short history was on their boats! (I'm binge-watching!)

So funny to see you have kneepads on, I was just getting ready to write this pleading with you to protect your knees. I’m an older contractor and I live in my kneepads. Use them religiously, even on the boat to save your lovely young knees from Damage, cheers

I used to work with kneepads that fitted in my pants. after a year or so I tossed them away because I started sitting on my knees way too much. now I always work in squad position when I'm low to the ground, it's so much better for my knees.

I hope you allowed the safe venting of the propane tank. If there is ever excessive pressure there should be an emergency pressure release valve to prevent tank getting over-pressurized, and hope your cover still allows that excess gas to exit without making a bomb. Stay Safe.

Hi guys, I’ve just started watching you’re channel. Very impressed with your episodes, boat fixing skills, and how far you’ve come in a pretty short time. Love your hard top Jordan. And I’m really impressed with how proficient your sewing skills have become Desiree. I’m just now trying to learn to sew with the same machine. Also impressed with how you’re doing it with a 30’ boat. My first boat was 25’ and I couldn’t stand up in it either, even under the companion way hatch. And I bet I’m shorter than you Desiree. But I loved that boat! Quick question for the ships sesmstress: for your projects, do you keep a bunch of sewing supplies on hand? Or do you tend to order stuff for specific projects? I’d like to hear and ‘stocking’ strategies you use if you keep stuff on hand for ‘just in case’ projects. I hope to cross wakes with y’all sometime in the future. Steve, SV Jen Chelsea
@ProjectAtticus5 жыл бұрын
solosailor54 great question about supplies! Yep! I keep clear PTFE thread, and UV-92 in white and black. I also have extra Dacron (6 yards), sunbrella in toast and captains navy (about 6 yards each) and lots of webbing, twist locks, etc. I have to get creative where to keep it all. A lot of cruising hubs (like rio dulce and Cancun) do have sunbrella for sale and other marine sewing supplies but they are very expensive. While living in Isla Mujeres, I asked a friend with a larger boat who went to FL 2-3 times a year to bring me supplies. I also became friends with a hotel owner who often shipped large supplies of hotel furniture, etc. in from the USA and asked him to bring materials for me. While in Guatemala I planned by projects out a couple weeks in advance and ordered the supplies I needed to be shipped in (extra cap spring for example) through Ram marina. Finally, I keep my ears open for cruisers who are flying back to the states. Hope that helps!

This idea originally for canal/narrow boats to controlling bow thrusters. Have a mechanical/electrical device at the tillers base so when turning, the bow thruster will assist in a turn, ie: sharper the turn higher the thrust. Also have a hand grip like a motorcycle throttle for opposite thrust for docking or whenever you need to go sideways (switch on throttle only). On the hand grip there would also be switches for thrusters on/off, throttle only (overrides tiller assist) and maybe a horn? ;-)
