I just found you and have watched several videos! As to using all cotton materials in the microwave, it will catch fire! I have baked potatoes in a microwave bag for years-2 potatoes, 6 minutes, turning around halfway. As I am now alone, I thought it OK to bake 1 potato for the full 6 minutes. FIRE happened. That 3 minute break to turn the bag let it cool just enough to avoid fire. Like you I never walk away from the microwave un operation. I now give the “The 3 Minute Rule” when I gift potato bags. Thank you for clear, concise tutorials! Merry Christmas!

Love this! I will definitely be making some ;-) I do have a question: do you have to be concerned with the dye used in the fabric? Or can I assume that any 100% cotton fabric should be ok? Thank you, Christine! (new subbie ;-) ) xx
@christineeick50963 жыл бұрын
Welcome! The dye does not matter as far as microwaving though on most of mine I have used white on the inside. I always prewash my fabric.

Thanks for this great video! I'm a beginner sewer. I only have fabric that are 21 inch long, not 22. Is it going to be a problem for this project?

Not a problem. Maybe put a little less popcorn in and see how full it gets when you pop the popcorn

Thanks! Question though. I made one from 100% cotton everything. But when I popped it, a little of the popcorn burned inside in the middle. I figured I should use a little less popcorn, as it was still popping in full swing when the burning happened. I emptied the bag, and the triangle flaps that make the bottom were browned from burning. I threw it out. Does this mean the fabric was not truly cotton?
@ChristineSewsALot2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! It probably does mean that you could have had something that was not all cotton. Good thing you stayed with it. I have never had that happen in any I made or that I gifted.
@joannedifrancesco45552 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the speedy reply! I was hoping that was all it was. I was going to make a bunch for gifts, but wanted to test first. It didn’t melt, but it definitely burned.
@ChristineSewsALot2 жыл бұрын
@@joannedifrancesco4555 well give yourself an A+ for being smart enough to test a bunch before investing in making a bunch of them. I used quilting cotton from one of the well known fabric brands and I have used Gutterman’s cotton thread and Aurfil’s cotton thread. Thanks for watching!

Do you wash it each time you use it

I don’t always, but you could. I shake it out well. I would never put it back in the drawer if I felt like it was crumbly.

Have you had your microwave popcorn bag scorch in the microwave. Should I be putting a half a glass of water in there to pop to protect the bag. My bag scorch so bad the fabric tore
@ChristineSewsALot10 ай бұрын
Oh my! That has never happened to me. I use 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton thread. You definitely want to be safe. Not sure if your microwave is more powerful than mine, whether it is a fabric issue, or popcorn???? 🍿 I use Pop Secret and have used Orville Redenbacker as well as a generic popcorn without any issues. I do stand by the microwave the entire time the popcorn is in there and take it out immediately when the popping slows down.
