Please make more sewing videos! You’re my favorite seamstress on KZbin! I love how you just throw your fabric together and patchwork it together and it turns out beautifully! Totally my style, but not many people work this way!

The dresses look lovely. I have made 4 of your work dresses (different length sleeves and fabrics) and love them, so may give this one a go. I like that you can put a top under it as my upper arms not too good ha ha. Thank you for sharing.

Ahh that's so wonderful! I'm loving the versatility of this one right now, especially wearing it with sweaters/shirts in the Bay Area's often chilly summer days

I sew myself little boleros in light jerseys, with sleeves to the elbow, so it hides my upper arms... it would look lovely with this kind of dress. I want to make it as I have to redo all my wardrobe after I got a double mastectomy without reconstruction... so what a problem to find or modify a pattern for very flat breast and a little bulge ... I love this pattern.

You did such a wonderful job on the two dresses; what a blessing that your aunt received a homemade dress from you! I just love your signature touch that you put on each item you made…gotta leave your mark! My birthday was on the 4th of this month and I received a sewing machine and I’m “sew” excited. Like crocheting, I find sewing very peaceful. Enjoyed your music too, you have such a beautiful voice and such a talented harp player. Thank you for sharing🥰

Always wash and dry natural fabrics before you cut any pieces to allow for shrinkage.
@EllaHarp2 жыл бұрын
I am familiar with this fabric and know it doesn't shrink by much, so I cut my pattern pieces slightly larger to account for it. If you are unsure of how much the fabric you're going to use shrinks or if you prefer to prewash and dry by all means do so, but my method works just as well and saves me a step 👍

Swim or drown.....i just came across your channel , watched this as a First , and really enjoyed your lovely song as i watched you do something i had hoped to find a video of : sewing a project successfully by somebody else who doesn’t like to iron before sewing, haha and you proved to me that my aversion to ironing doesn’t have to sideline me from sewing. Haha thank you so very much for the lovely video, and you make it seem second nature, the way you whipped those dresses out, and bravo for not ironing or prewashing and making two very versatile and fun looking jumper dresses. And please if you could maybe link to your song? Thanks! Great job!

Love the dresses I really need to try sewing one ...they look easy but I usually need a pattern to do something 🤔...colors are great...I would be afraid to wash in hot and dry on high..I'm more on cool and hang to dry then iron...afraid of shrinkage...were these linen....

Hi Ella, I was wondering if you ever have any issues with drying your linen garments in the dryer? I have linen pillowcases and try to always air dry them because I've heard that the heat from the dryer is bad for linen fabrics and drastically shortens their lifespan. Do you only dry them like this the one time for shrinkage or all of the time? Thank you!!
@EllaHarp2 жыл бұрын
I personally continue to dry mine in the dryer (tho I'll often take them out just before they're fully dry) and haven't had issues, but air drying is totally fine if that's your preference! The initial wash/dry is the most important to set the seams/shrinkage

Would you mind terribly explaining how you measure for your skirt pieces widths?
@janell26452 жыл бұрын
My guess is that each gathered piece is one and a half times (1.5x) wider than the piece above it that it’s attached to or it could be 2 x wider which is also common for gathered pieces. So if one bottom edge of the tank top is 20” wide the top skirt piece would be between 30” to 40” wide. You can choose how full you would like the gathers to be on your skirt.
@EllaHarp2 жыл бұрын
As a general rule, I aim to have my skirts stick out about 1-3" wider on each side of my top panel for workdresses (laid flat, before I start gathering) depending on the visual I'm going for. You could have more allowance for a fuller skirt, but wouldn't want to do any less. Because the skirt panels are tapered, the bottoms are wider by around 2-4"

Why does such a lot of youtube sewists work on the floor? Why don't you have tables?
@EllaHarp2 жыл бұрын
Can only speak for myself, but space and dedicated furniture are luxuries I don't have the finances for as an independent musician in a very expensive city/state. The floor of my 350sq foot studio is what I have and I'm cool with it.
