@@sewingwithcodyandpete8651 thanks for replying. Your videos are so good, i also went back to the store and got a b79 as well. It is such a cool machine and i love the Hover feature. And the ability to design my own stitches, yeah, it has some very nice features only the high end Berninas have, that even my 535 is missing out on. I like both machines. But I figured the b79 would give me embroidery and an extra sewing machine with some really great features, for around the cost of adding an embroidery Unit to my 535. And the b79 takes bigger hoops, than the 535 can handle. I recall you say you like the 5.5mm stitch width of the 535 for piecing quilts? i may use the 535 for stuff like piecing; i got the walking foot for it, so that makes up for no Direct Feed. So the walking foot, and the BSR, i think it is a good set up for quilting. ( i know i can’t use them in tandem).The b79 can do the decorative stuff like garment embellishments. So i think between them, i have about everything to be creative. Cody ,watching your videos was very helpful in helping me determine what i wanted and so helpful for someone with little experience. I enjoy them very much. Thanks so much.

I love the hummingbird wall hanging, it's so nice. Hummingbirds are one of my favorite bird species. I'm eyeing the B770 QE, but when I went into a Bernina dealer to get Miele vacuum bags, I sort of eyed one then, but was really focused on more important things, anyway long story short, six months later I did research on an investment/workhorse sewing machine, realizing the 880 to 790, and even the 770 was a bit above, even a stretch of a budget. After going over and over the comparisons of the machines mentioned above and even the B 740, which I was testing out, and while talking to my sales rep, the owner came out and offered me any B 770 for $4999.00, brand new. Anyway, I think I'm going to take a wild stretch and get one.....I'll really have to put it to work to pay for itself. Thanks for your advice and expertise........I liked and subscribed.

Wonderful! Yes the BSR is not inexpensive at all. If someone doesn't purchase a machine that comes with the BSR the best time to purchase it is when BERNINA puts it on sale. The last two weeks of September all feet will be 25% off. :)

Hey Cody, I canNot tell you how helpful this has been. I’ve owned my Bernina 570 for a few years. I have been frustrated with it. (No classes during Covid didn’t help) an SOOO happy I discovered you and your channel. This was the BEST, hands down, explanation on how to use it AND a very good explanation on both modes, 1 and 2. Thank you!!!! Would love to sit in a class in person with you! Thank you so much for your time and attention to detail! One question or something that confuses me about the BSR, it’s tough to tell which mode you’re in. The screen confuses me. I think the default is it opens in mode 1. However, the number on the screen is not bold. So the lighter or white number is the mode activated?

Hi Cody, It's me again. Watched this video again because it is so helpful with learning my BSR.. I do have a question. I have been using mine for a few years now. Have come a long way with my quilting. However, can you talk about the BSR skipping stitches/making long stitches? I can stitch for a few hours, and everything is fine...not perfect, like little points where there shouldn't be. i know that comes with practice. But what is causing the long skipped stitch? Could it be using the spray basting adhesive?

You bring up a good point. I am not 100% clear if you are are having some skipped stitches after stitching for a while or throughout your quilting, I will talk about both. When quilting we find skipped stitches occur when the needle isn't the most ideal. This could be the needle is worn down, too small, or wrong type (less than ideal). When we are quilting we want to use a decent sized needle if the needle is too small we can have a number of issue (won't get into the details why exactly) so whenever I'm quilting I am either using a 90/14 quilting or top stitch needle. Don't want anything much smaller unless working with batik fabric and don't want anything much larger really not on a home domestic machine. Remember this is all just the average quilting project there are always different circumstance so this not just a good rule of thumb. Now when we are using spray baste to baste our quilts together (this is my preferred method for sure) sometimes we may have more glue in some areas, also depending on what spray adhesive you are using makes a difference too. Make sure you are using a good quality spray baste for quitting. Our long time favorite is "Temporary Spray Adhesive 505 by Odif". So what can happen is that glue can be a little too sticky and this can cause the threads not to form. This also goes back to the needle, so a good needle to try when having issue is a titanium needle, we work with Organ Titanium needles a lot. They are amazing for a lot of different embroidery projects too. The titanium coating prevents any glue from building up on the needle which can cause skipped stitches or loops on projects. I think i've lost my train of thought haha. However you may notices that for 3/4 of you quilt everything is great then all of a sudden you start to slowly notice issue with your stitching and it slowly starts getting worse. This is a sure sign that it is time for a new needle and potentially some oil. Now if you are having issue from the beginning but still very random and just here and there and everything seems fine and you've tried a few different remedies and still having longer stitches here and there most likely the longer stitches are going to be found right where you've sped up in speed when quilting. So the stitch regulator on the machine does a great job at keeping up, the machine it's self even though it stitches at up to 1000 stitches a min (depending on your model) it's not able to rapidly increase that speed in a fraction of a second. This is why we sometimes see a slightly long stitch here and there and a lot of times it's in curves or the start of a cure right where we've sped up. So yes sometimes its a "skipped stitch" but sometimes the machine just wasn't able to stitch but once in that area instead of twice to keep that even stitch length. So yes like you said in your message it comes with practice but the best advice I can give is to do you best at moving in fluid motions and try not to rapidly increase and decrease in speed. Now by all means I'm not saying you can't stitch faster haha but when you are increasing and decreasing speed think of it as driving you don't want to floor it when the light turns green you'll use a lot more case and wear out your tires rather slowly accelerate. haha Hope this helps :)

No you can not unfortunately, only exception is the BERNINA Q16 and Q20 as for sit down.

My machine was beeping when I use BSR. Do you know why? I just got the machine and it was first time using BSR and no idea why it is beeping....

The beeping is an indicator that you were moving the fabric faster that what the machine can stitch at. The easiest way to have the machine stitch faster is to increase your stitch length. The default stitch length is set to 2mm which is fairly tight which is good for small very detailed free motion quilting. But if you are a fast quilter then you are probably doing larger more open designs so we always recommend Increasing the stitch length to at least 2.5mm -2.75mm. You can definitely go even longer. It depends on how long you want the stitch length to be. Hope this helps.

Sadly no because the soles for the BSR will slide under that rulers and cause major problems. Ruler work should only be used with the 1/4" high ruler foot #72 so the foot and rulers can slide right along the edge without any problems. This is when the BERNINA Q Series shines because it had two BSRs built in down by the bobbin facing up so you can use whatever feet you want. Hopefully this answers your question. :)
