The look on your face when Rob identified the bobbin threads is the same look I gave my civilian mom when she said something about basting stitches the other day. So proud! I'm definitely going to be changing out my bobbin thread color for gathering from now on. And the pins for the thread tails? Freaking genius!!!

WHOA SHIT!!! my mother was a NY trained seamstress and I've been sewing since I was a little girl...she never said the bobbin threads were easier to pull!! (I bet she knew...just didn't share!). GREAT INFO!! I remember momma teaching me that figure 8....😭😭

Love this! Who knew you could get sexual innuendo into a gathering tutorial! 😂 question: how come it’s easier to pull the needle thread out when it’s harder to gather with the needle thread? I’d have thought the higher tension would make it harder 🤔
@beth12svist2 жыл бұрын
Nice demonstration! And rather needed for me, because all of the gathering I've done recently was old-fashioned hand-sewn lines of running stitches. :D (That's what happens when you get yourself into historical costuming!)

I’m new to sewing so please excuse my ignorance, but why would you need to take gathering out? Is it just if a mistake is made, or is it a technique of some sort to gather and then remove the gather?
@smallfootprint29612 жыл бұрын
If they show or pull.
@handmadeharriells2 жыл бұрын
Yes, as small footprint said ! And no question is ignorant, there’s always something to learn in sewing no matter what your level. To ramble on a little more, the gathers will lay much prettier if you remove those stitches after sewing up your seam 💗
