Sewourouba - Dialy Mamadou CISSOKHO

Le sewourouba est un instrument de musique traditionnelle mandingue. Il est joué dans des cérémonies comme les Jamba don (danse des feuilles, langue mandingue), les fanikendo (danse nocturne effectuée la veille d’une circoncision, langue mandingue), ou pour accompagner une nouvelle mariée chez son époux. Le sewourouba fait partie des premiers instruments de musique traditionnelle qui a été introduit dans la musique mandingue moderne. C’est le cas de l’UCAS Jazz Band de Sédhiou et Dialiba Kouyaté de Gambie. À noter que cet instrument peut accompagner tout type de musique. Le sewourouba est très similaire au sabar wolof. La différence entre les deux se trouve au niveau de la peau qui est beaucoup plus tendue sur le sabar.
The sewourouba is a traditional Mandinka musical instrument. It is played in ceremonies such as the Jamba don (leaf dance, Mandingo language), the fanikendo (night dance performed on the eve of a circumcision, Mandingo language), or to accompany a new bride to her groom. The sewourouba is one of the first traditional musical instruments to be introduced into modern Manding music. This is the case of the UCAS Jazz Band from Sédhiou and Dialiba Kouyaté from Gambia. It should be noted that this instrument can accompany any type of music. The sewourouba is very similar to the Wolof sabar. The difference between the two is in the skin which is much tighter on the sabar.
