Hello ma'am😊 I just wanted to know how you got to determining which allele is the dominant and which is the recesive; in other words how do you know that the small letter 'h' gives you the disease and not the capital letter 'H'?

Normally they willl tell you it’s a dominant or recessive disorder in the little paragraph before the question. Or you can determine the type of inheritance,dominant or recessive based on how frequently it appears in the family. I have a pedigree video on this already. Often dominant is more frequent than recessive meaning more people have it in the family. Th small letter is always recessive and the capital is dominant.

Hi Mam, Why is it that the invidual with the "disease" is represented with a lower case letter i though it should be upper case since it must be dominant for one to have the disease correct? Please correct me if i am wrong.
@missangler2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tiara if the disease is recessive then they must have a lowercase letter. if the disease is a dominant one then it would have a capital letter so it depends on the disease. For example haemophilia is recessive so it’s a small letter h. If you are a boy with one h then you have it. if you are a girl and you have one h then you are just a carrier. that’s because sex linked diseases are linked to your X and Y chromosomes

Hi Mam. I am struggling to determine what will be the independent cause and the dependent cause when looking at a family tree. For instance: when they look for who in the family has dimpels and who does not have.
