For breeders its easy to distinguish males and females. But for newbies its going to be pretty hard..

This was too late in the video wasn’t it? The females were already pregnant. For selective breeding purposes it’s important to keep the females virgins.

Great video Jesse, really important info for people looking to selectively breed livebearers. Have you noticed any factors influencing the number of males versus females in a batch like temperature or pH?

I have not taken note of those factors myself. But since you mentioned it, itll be something good to look out for.

Also male are smaller I have few guppies an ther male black yellow tux ,then female albino orange tail ,she has fry first two days I had here but not from my male but two fry servived verey tiny male an a gigantic female wow she's so big ther the same litter an only month old if that an male is so tiny.an couple days ago she had more with my tuxedo male an only two lived ther going to look awsome I beleive mom's albino orange tail an he's black an yellow tuxedo I'm curious what ther going to look like I cant find anyone that has these two types of guppies fry together so I have no idea what thell look like any one have idea

The fry keep hiding in the gravel and get chased by the adult male and female...what do I do? I just sprinkle pellets all over the tank so it reaches them. I am aware of ammonia levels rising but no other choice

I like to separate the fry from parents. Either take the fry out, or take the parents out. I know, that'll mean more tanks, but hey...

Sorry if you cover it in the vid (had to watch muted) but I was given 4 females (believed to be around 3 months old now) and one has started to display black markings which come and go, on the side, not the gravid spot. Could it be it's a male only just starting to show? Also her it could be due to water parameters but my waters fine :/

@@HCAqua As it turns out yes it was a male. In fact 3 of 4 turned out to be male! They must have been slow developers, they all had a black dot/smudge on and off for a week or so, then slowly started getting colour. Two are now full colours and one has only just started getting his black stripe.

I generally try to separate at around 4 weeks, but I'm not that picky to be honest.

😯 there's so many I had 4 females & 2 males & they didn't breed had them for 4 to 5 months but I hate fancy guppies are hard to breed for me.

Sometimes it's who you get them from. If you get them too old, they might not breed.

Usually when a female is ready to give birth, her body becomes more rectangular.

Everything I've read says to separate them at 4 weeks because by six weeks they can become pregnant. It looks like some of yours are already pregnant with that dark of a gravid spot.
