I lived in Bristol at Michael's Restaurant on Hotwells Rd in 1980. A friend of mine had just purchased the Pump House. I would love to see it in 2023. The people have a lovely accent only second to their warm and welcoming personalities. 😊😊😊

I think what MIGHT be the case is Bristolians are more attractive. So conversely, what comes out of their mouth is automatically sexy. For example you're adorable. Therefore, I'm inclined to drool over everything you say, without regard to how it sounds. If this happens enough times, one can see how the perception would begin to form that Bristolians "talk" sexy. In this video alone, you spoke to some self-avowed locals that seem to lend my point some credit. The other thing is: Are they referring to Bristolian in it's original iteration, or the way younger people nowadays speak it?

I love the Northern UK accents and the Geordie accent. The Bristol accent always made me think of farmers who are a little stupid. But it's still a comforting accent all the same.

You're absolutely correct. Many Yankee accents sound like they're from west country. But, if one thinks about it many Yanks ancestors originally came from the Cornwall, Devon area. Plus, I agree with Kelly-Ann too, not all Bristolians sound that way, but enough do sound like Yanks to tell what part of England the "Americans" came from. Neil is right too, I'm told we Yanks get that strong "r" from Somerset.
@alex-sv8ru5 жыл бұрын
Neil Andblowmee I don't think so. Back in the 18th century, most English people had rhotic accents (accents with the hard R). Non-rhoticity (soft R) became popular after the American Revolution.
